Xabi Alonso limped off the training ground yesterday after aggrevating a foot injury picked up against Portsmouth last weekend, should he fail to recover in time for tonights match, he joins a growing list of players recently injured.
Having said all that though, it does pave the way for Mascherano to make start, I think long term himself and Gerrard will make the best central midfield partnership. With regards to tonight's match against Porto, I think having Mascherano and Alonso starting in midfield with Gerrard on the right wing would give us more defensive solidity to thwart the threat of the impressive Quaresma.
