Should Steven Gerrard play for England ?

There's a load of hoopla (?) in the media about this subject. What it boils down to in my opinion is that if Steven Gerrard requires pain killing injections it will take him 4/5 days to recover from them. Will the FA compensate Liverpool for the loss of their captain ? I've nothing against players playing for their national teams, but it's the clubs who get hit in the pocket (or worse, it affects the teams results) in the event of injuries. What happens should the injury become aggravated, then he'll be out for even longer. Unless his injury has cleared before either of the upcoming games, then it's best he doesn't play.

If he can recover within 4-5 days then surely he can play in the first game on Saturday and be back for the Portsmouth game on Saturday week? England do need him - more, dare I say it after three crushing victories without him, than Liverpool do - and I need my wife to be happy!

Publicly, I'd have to agree with you that the wife should come first...
but, privately, hey man this is Liverpool we're talking about ;-)

My wife is from Liverpool and regularly lambasts me for not worshipping Steven Gerrard enough - I've never really forgiven him for that flirtation with Chelsea :-)

But there is a serious point about internationals. Remember how Ryan Giggs was always 'injured' for Wales? The Mancs were taking the mick. I don't see why Liverpool should go down their dishonest road.
