Missing Agger more than Alonso

Life isn't the same when your best players are out injured, Agger is still sidelined but at least tonight should see the return of Xabi Alonso to the side after Gerrard picked up a stomach bug yesterday.

I'm looking forward to seeing Alonso back in action but with the quality midfield cover we possess it's Aggers absence which hurts the side most.
Alonso may be our best passer, but in the absence of Agger he has to play further down the pitch and has less influence on the game as a result.

Aggers pace allows the defence to play further up the field, but he also has excellent ball control and passing ability. Despite our excellent defensive record, it's in the attacking stakes that Agger gives us what the other defenders don't.

Utter nonsense. How are we missing Agger more? Liverpool's defensive record has been superb whilst he's been out.

Its bloody obvious we play better with agger in the team - agger can play football and create attacks from the back !
We lack a certain spark with Carra & Hyypia

Yeah our defensive record has been superb whilst Agger has been out.
But lets face it we are a much better attacking unit when he is playing.

Hyypia is a solid, dependable defender most of the time. Agger is the same, but Paul's point is that he has way more pace which allows the team play a higher defensive line to pressure the opposition midfield and allow our own to do more attacking. Also, Agger has a fearsome shot on him and chips in with some goals but most crucially of all, prompts attacks with good passing and ball carrying from defence not unlike star Liverpool defenders of old. You can miss a defender in more ways than in the goals conceded column of the league table you know.
