That wasn't a perfect performance at all

I don't see how any Liverpool fan can be sufficiently deluded so as to think our performance against Marseille was near perfect (as Rafa claims).

Sure at the start the lads showed some hunger (Stevie, Torres & Kewell were the real stand outs) and it was great that we went 2-0 up so soon. Perhaps because of that the lads didn't play too well after that, although they didn't need to, as Marseille lost all confidence and desire to win.

When you consider the quality of Besiktas & Marseille, it beggars disbelief how we managed to only finish 2nd in the group, we must have set a champions league record for scoring 18 goals and only finishing 2nd ?!?

Still if it gives the lads a confidence boost coming up to the ManUre game then great but they'll have to play alot better to beat ManUre.

I know Rafa and Stevie might be exagerating how the team played but I think if Marseille were playing better then Liverpool would have kept up a tempo.
Interesting stat from the game is that Marseille had 64% possession. Good thing about Liverpool is that even when we dont play well we still behave like a unit and have a hard work ethic which prevents lots of goals being scored against us.

I think it's a really good performance. Possession time means nothing in this case. Marseille had just 2 or 3 chances during the whole match. We actually controlled the game, let them ran around the park without any actual threat. In this way, we save a lot of steam for the next all important match with MU. Marseille isn't a decent enough opponent but to me there's not much wrong in saying we had a 'near perfect' match.
