Truly Revolutionary – New Liverpool Stadium

As promised the new stadium will be centred around the Kop, which will house 18,000 fans in a single tier stand. The acoustics of the roof have been designed to accentuate the atmosphere.

As was widely expected, Liverpool have done away with the trend towards bowl shaped stadiums and instead have gone for a more traditional asymmetric design. "This new design will be unmistakeable Liverpool and instantly recognisable as our stadium."

The stadium will initially house 60,000 fans with the facility to expand to 78,000 in the years ahead, while Hicks & Gillet would have liked to started out with 78,000 they were held back by planning restrictions. To cater for 78,000 Liverpool will have to finance major improvements in the transport infrastructure to Stanley Park, one rumour indicates modernising the existing railway system through Stanley Park.

Importantly, it’s been stated that the new stadium will not land Liverpool in debt, ticket prices will inevitably rise, that combined with the extra seating should help to ensure Liverpool’s long term competitiveness.

Horrible New Euro Away Kit

Well the new european away kit has arrived, but to be honest I think it looks terrible. There's something United-esque about it, either that or some sort of training kit. It's a bit cynical having so many expensive kits, while I appreciate the logic behind the whole commercial side of things, I wish Liverpool would just stick to having one away kit per year and the home kit every 2 years and leave it at that ! I much prefer the normal Liverpool Away Kit :-)

Liverpool's new dimension in attack....

A man of the match performance from Andriy Voronin against Werder Bremen in a pre-season friendly (last night) could bode well for his future at Anfield. He may have arrived on a free transfer but his performance in his first game for Liverpool shows that he's willing to put in the effort on the pitch. He bagged 2 goals and was a constant threat throughout the game.
Ryan Babel & Yossi Benayoun also had impressive debuts with lots of attacks down the wings.
Fernando Torres was unlucky not to score, coming close a couple of times but still looked impressive all the same.
Given that these guys have only been training for several days they're looking sharp at a very early stage, can't wait until the season proper starts ;-)

Amoo Who ?

Liverpool's recruiting of youngsters continues unabated with the capture of highly rated David Amoo.
The prolific 15 year old striker was on the verge of breaking through to Millwall's first team and his signature was highly sought after. Liverpool's Malcolm Elias (head of recruitment) said "He's an exciting talent with fantastic physical prowess."
He joins a bunch of very talented youth players at Liverpool and as stated before, it will be interesting to see how many actually end up breaking through to the Liverpool first team.

Liverpool bid for Babel, wingers needed

Yesterday Liverpool made a bid for Ajax wing sensation Ryan Babel. The 20 year old is also a long term target for Arsenal. He was very impressive in the U-21 European Championships last month and is rated one of the greatest Dutch talents. Other wingers, which Bentiez is believed to be interested in are Ricardo Quaresma, Alessandro Mancini and Yossi Benayoun. Hopefully we'll get at least 2 of these signed up before long.

Liverpool bank £16m from Cisse & Bellamy

Cisse has made his stay with Olympique Marseille permanent after the 2 clubs agreed a £6m transfer, he will be joined by Bolo Zenden who signed on a free with Marseille.
Bellamy as expected has been sold, West Ham came in for £8m and rumour has it that Benayoun will be shortly moving in the opposite direction. With the £16 million now raised, hopefully Benitez can now step up his pursuit of a world class winger.

Benitez has hinted at Bellamy departure

Now that the Torres deal is in the bag and Andriy Voronin has also arrived, Benitez has strongly hinted that it's Bellamy who will be the striker to leave the club. He has confirmed that Crouch will be staying, yet when asked about Bellamy, he merely states that there has been interest from other clubs and that it's a possibility he will be leaving.
Loosely translated from 'football transfer terms' that means he is as good as gone already.
Shame really, as his attitude for the most part was spot on, worked very hard, brought a lot to the team with his genuine pace and skill, if he'd been given a proper run in the team we could have got a lot more goals from him.

Independence Day - Torres to be a Kop legend

Torres has today passed his medical with Liverpool FC and also has agreed personal terms of £90,000 per week to join Liverpool for a club record £26.5m and is due to sign on the 4th July.
For those who don't already know, Torres is very quick, skillful, two footed and a powerful striker, certainly not your typical Spanish forward, more akin to the likes of Thierry Henry.
Importantly he's the type of player who can easily lead an attack on his own, yet works easily well with a partner and above all else, he can score GOALS.
Here's a video compilation of some of his goals on YouTube :-

The youth ranks continue to swell

The youth ranks continue to swell with yet another Bulgarian signing, again raiding CSKA Sofia, this time for 18 year old Mihail Alexandrov. I know very little about this guy other than he's a midfielder and will finish off the current youth season before hooking up with us.
The seven other signings can be found here .

Liverpool FC - Season Calendar for Google users

I've knocked up a publicly available Liverpool FC Calendar (accessible on the top left corner of 'My Anfield', labelled "Fixtures & Results") which shows the teams results and fixtures for the last couple of years but also of course this year, will be keeping it updated throughout the year.

If you want you can either click on the button here to add it to your own google calendar or alternatively just type in "Liverpool" in the search box from within google calendar.

Also Google has just released a desktop calendar gadget which should simplify viewing your calendar :-)

The Killer has been signed by Liverpool

Barcelona have yet again lost one of their most promising young talents to the Premiership on a free (Fabregas, Fran Merida, Pique).
Liverpool have signed Dani Pacheco (nicknamed "The Killer" by his teammates). He shunned Barca's offer of a professional contract and arrives on a free with us. The half Spanish/half Czech striker is widely reputed to be one of Europe's hottest young prospects but at 16 years of age it'll be another couple of years before we get any chance to see him play for the first team.

Liverpool have been busy recruiting a number of youth players this summer, so far there's been Alex Kacaniklic, Marvin Purie, Mikel San Jose, Nikolai Mihailov, Krisztian Nemeth, Andras Simon and now of course Pacheco.
It's been quite a while since a youngster broke through at Anfield, but hopefully with all the youth signings made, one or two will make the step up in the not too distant future.
