We're given a scare by part-timers, struggle against the likes of Luton Town and get dumped out of the FA Cup by Barnsley. Couple this with a real challenge to finish fourth, likely finishing 20 odd points from the top in the process (again). The players for the most part repeatedly put in poor performances, probably due to a combination of bizarre substitutions, team selections, tactics & managerial motivation (or lack thereof).
Rafa gave us one of the best nights ever when we won in Istanbul, put in a credible title challenge & won the FA Cup the following season, made it to the final of the Champions League again after that, but our league form has badly dropped the last couple of seasons. He's also revitalised our youth teams but it'll be another couple of years before we can reap any benefits from that.
I'll refrain from commenting on our 'custodians' simply because I can't honestly think of anything positive to say. But where to now for our beloved club ?

It's shite the way Rafa persists with playing flops and playing the guys out of position, our football is boring to say the least, so much so that I'd welcome Mourinhos boring style of play if only to bring some trophies our way.
Unlike Houlier, Rafa peaked within his first 2 years and has gone downhill from there. But just like Houlier he has us playing a boring suffocating brand of football. Mourinho will have us playing crap but winning. I want a return to the days when we won by playing exciting football. Fergie and Wenger can do it, we need to find our own Fergie/Wenger type to do the same for us.
We also need people with balls running the club. A good DIC should do the job ;-)
Very interesting as it seems that even a blind man could manage Chelsea with this kind of money. Stop pissing on Benitez. Liverpool has been the most unfortunate club in the past 2 years. No manager would do better job with this kind of players and this budget.Don't even get me started with the owners. If he can bring 6th CL title I say, screw the Premiership it will come eventualy. But the CL, that's something special.
