Thankfully Mascherano has recovered from the groin strain he received last week and will be fit to face Inter Milan tomorrow night. Hopefully this will allow Rafa to continue with a 4-2-3-1 formation which has been used so effectively in recent weeks (it might have been a bit much to expect Lucas to make the jump for such an important game).
Unfortunately Finnan is still out with a hamstring injury which means we'll most likely have Arbeloa on the right and the ever so ineffectual Riise on the left :-(

Riise has really gone downhill - what a waste - would be great if Benitez was willing to give young Insua (has been hugely consistent standout performer in reserves) a shot at left back and break him in to the first team this season so we have him ready for next year.
I've only seen Insua a couple of times now but he's certainly an exciting prospect. I suspect Rafa will stick with Riise & Aurelio for now. From next season I reckon Insua might end up going on loan to gain experience.
Mascher is the Monster but I'm worried about the stories I'm hearing about Alonso falling out of love with Rafa. He showed flashes of his old passing range against the barcodes on Saturday and still has a huge amount to offer us IMO, because nobody else in the squad has his range of passing. It'd be a huge mistake to sell him, at least not until Lucas comes on another bit and maybe not even then.
If Rafa does end up making a more permanent switch to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation then I don't see any reason for him to sell Alonso or for Alonso to want to leave.
But if most of our time is spent with a 4-4-2 formation then it doesn't leave much room for Alonso (Mascher is too damn good) who will just get even more frustrated at a lack of playing opportunities and then he will likely request to leave.
