Dreaming of the Sheikh owning LFC

Not sure how much credence can be paid to this article from the Liverpool Daily Post. Unnamed mystical sources hardly inspire confidence. But it has given me considerable food for thought.

If the ruling Sheikh of Dubai were to take over LFC directly rather than using DIC as the investment vehicle, it would make things considerably easier for LFC to grow and develop. By not using DIC they don't need the more immediate [and large] returns on their investment. What does this mean for LFC ?

It would be a concrete statement of intent as to how serious they are about LFC. We'd have an owner who can plow real money into the club, which means progress on a new stadium and also be better able to finance the acquisitions of the players we need to secure the Premiership crown. What more could you ask for ?

Hi Paul
Nice blog you got going..

I agree with you about the prospects of the Sheikh. But there is also the possibility of this being a new Abramovich/Shinawatra-charachter who would interfere too much in Rafa's business. I have read he is a Liverpool-fan, and that would make it natural for him to try and override Rafa and his decisions.
I don't think we will see Rafa in a track suit again, next time he will out the door.

Anyway, can't wait for tonight.
We can do this!

Hi Trond,
glad you like it :-)
Granted there's the possibility of the Sheik 'interfering' but truth be told I'd rather that than have the existing situation of the Yanks constantly bickering in public and reneging on their promises :-(
I think it's only natural that the owner of any club is going to have a certain say in things, but the Sheikh likely has far more important and time consuming things on this mind than the day to day running of LFC.
Tonight should be way cool :-)

I agree with both of you, there would be a certain amount of interference but that goes with the territory, but at least we would have one person makin the important decisions instead of 2 who cant agree on the colour of grass, plus being owned by a soveriegn state as real madrid pretty much are, we would not need futile tours to the far east and the US as money making excersises our player could get decent breaks in the summer. I also read that JP Morgan have advised hicks to sell now because of the difficulty he is having in raising funds to buy gillets share, there is only one offer on the table and they are affraid any more delays will see the deal fall thru, refinancing in due in 2010 which puts the americans in a precarious financial position. anyone remember leeds?

Hi Strebby,
I reckon the Leeds situation is something which none of us want, it would set us back so many years :-(
Hopefully Hicks is just waiting to see if we win the Champions League so he can boost his profit (all those transatlantic flights can't be cheap) in the sale ;-)
