Fourth spot is pretty much in the bag

I only saw highlights of todays game and despite Fulham not being top class opposition I was still thrilled with the progress of Lucas Leiva. He continues to impress and develop well. As for Mascherano, a true midfield general if ever I saw one, not since Souness have I seen one so good for LFC.

Todays win against Fulham has pretty much wrapped up fourth spot for us. We're 8 points clear with only 3 games to go. The implications of qualifying for next seasons Champions League are straight forward enough, we need the money so we can afford to sign a few more top class players and then mount a proper challenge in the Premiership next season. Despite a couple of rocky patches, we're finishing the season strongly, surely number 19 is only around the corner ?

we have got several world class players and some excellent youth players coming through but we need more world class players.
i think we can make a good challenge next season. but i dont think we can win it unless injuries are very kind to us. we need 2 world class wingbacks, 2 world class wingers and another world class striker if we want to be sure of winning the premiership.
i dont think lfc can afford to buy that many world class players this summer.

I got to say I think we only need a couple of wingers & a left back, anything more than that is a bonus. We're making a switch to 4231 formation so don't really need another striker (unless Crouch goes).
I firmly believe that Rafa will be given sufficient funds to buy a few more quality players and that we're going to win the Premiership next year !!!

The lads are right Paul, this summer simply has to be about signing two/three players who will instantly go into the first team and make a tangible improvement in the way that Torres has. No more Pennant type filler signings, like Gareth Barry (!) for instance. It's all about adding sheer quality from now on or else we'll be scrapping for fourth again. Rafa says he has signed one guy already who will go into the first team right away, a non-English player but one who speaks good English apparently.
Of course the big worry in all this is precisely how much money he'll have to spend because of all the shitehawking going on in the board room.

Therein lies the problem, how much money will Rafa have to spend, all it takes is a few more top class players and we're sorted.

Just hope our 'custodians' are willing to take the plunge, they speak of wanting to fulfill LFCs commercial potential, being champions is the real way forward.

Paul,

Decided to check out your other site as well - believe it or not I played football for ten years before becoming a mommy. My dad coached me and up until the day he died last May he followed the world teams and even bought a special cable television box so that he could get as many games as possible.

He and I were going to write a book together about coaching kids properly from the ground up but it never happened before he got sick.

Anyway, I just thought it was cool that from a tech blog on web apps I might end up meeting a fellow football fanatic from across the pond!

By the way, thanks for reading my fairy tale! It's nothing like my novels (except in theme I suppose), but it's still a story that's been burning in my heart for years. Hope you'll keep tuning in for part 3!

@madison - Being a mommy is all the more reason to keep on playing football, surely the kids need an education ;-)

I'll certainly be tuning in for part 3 ;-)
