We got what we deserved [knocked out]

I'm actually not too bothered that we lost to Chelsea. The harsh reality is that we just weren't good enough and didn't deserve to win.

I was surprised Benayoun & Torres weren't subbed earlier. Sure Torres scored a cool goal but he was largely anonymous throughout, and Benayoun who created the goal beautifully also had a terrible game.

Gerrard true to form [against the big teams] didn't perform well, while Alonso was average [again]. I'd high hopes that Riise would be eager to make up for his gaffe in the 1st leg but it seems he wasn't too bothered.

If it wasn't for the likes of Skrtel, Carragher, Mascherano & Reina we would've been torn apart completely. Last week I thought it might be a case of 3rd time lucky for Chelsea, this week I know they deserved it.

if only you knew that torres is a great striker and shouldnt have been subbed earlier as u mentioned. he's the one who got pace, skills and score a goal any time even if not taking part a great deal in the match.

I do know that Torres is a great player. I also know that he was having a bad game which is why I'd prefer someone hungrier play instead (Babel / Crouch)

I have to agree that Torres had a bad game, turns out he had some hamstring problems which might have accounted for it. Just because a player has a big name doesnt mean they should have some divine right to be on the pitch. All players should have to earn that right and if they are having a bad game the i think its only right they should be subbed.
Torres is a living legend for us and i can forgive the odd bad game ;-)

I don't think Torres had a bad game. Our midfield couldn't cope with them and didn't provide much ball to Torres. Therefore he's anonymous for most of the match. But Torres's appearance kept us look dangerous on the counter attack, which actually helped ease the pressure on our defense. I agree with you that we should put Crouch on because when we couldn't keep the ball then we can play long ball to the strikers. Anyway, maybe Benitez doesn't want to do it coz their CBs are tall, strong and good in the air. Chelsea played much better than us on that day but we played better than them at Anfield.
