While it's no great secret that Kewell would be leaving LFC this summer, it was somewhat surprising to hear that Rafa had offered him a new deal, albeit on lower wages. When Kewell is on form, there can be no denying he's an excellent player who can pass, shoot, dribble and provide penetration down the flanks.
He has had a remarkable tendancy to be injury free and on form whenever a potential trophy is on the horizon, but when there's nothing to play for his form is poor and injuries (whether real or imagined) come out of the woodwork.
I wonder what makes Kewell think he's worth so much money. Robbie Fowler accepted a pay cut for the privilege to play for LFC in his tender years, yet Kewell has never come across as someone who considered it a privilege to play for us. He's already mega rich, I wonder what his priorities in life are ?

Yep - agree. Kewell is a
money grabbing twat
By what we read in the media it seems that he is more interested in money than paying back to Liverpool the faith that they have in him.
Apparently they offered him a Lion bar and a packet of Hunky Dorys per appearance. After much consideration, Harry demanded a fun-size Twix to be thrown in as goal/assist bonus... that's when discussions broke down.
"LFC will not be held to ransom by any Antipodean-Confection-Craving-Crock" - declared Parry who, being nick-named Coco, has lived in fear of Harry and his straw for some time.
During his transfer from Leeds to us, he apparently turned down bigger money offers so I think we shouldn't cruxify him now when we don't even know the offer on the table currently. It could be a derogatory pay-as-you-play offer by the club, knowing well that he wouldnt accept those terms.
Whats derogatory about a pay-as-you-play offer ? Nothing, espcially cos he is prone to be out injured. He is not worth £60000 a week, not even nearly. He is clearly only interested in money. I cant stand him, he gave us nothing and we paid him £150000 per game he played, and he only played well in a handful of games. Total waster.
Any real liverpool fan would do almost anything to play for the club we love. Fowler is God and an example to all money grubbing players out there.
What is wrong with a pay-as-you play? If he had a good season he could re-negotiate, any normal person would feel some sort of debt to the club and want to prove Benitez was right to show blind faith in him especially in being picked for most finals and getting a Champions League medal for 20 minutes of hobbling about
I think maybe we should all just try and remember the good times that Kewell brought us....
Well there was that one time on MTV Cribs, cool house !!!
....damn, I can't think of anything else ;-)
Being Australian i no doubt love harry kewell, but as a passionate liverpool supporter i would have loved for him to stay at Anfield and i am dissapointed that he did not accept a reduced wages contract. He is worth the money he is payed when not injured and in form but from the clubs perspective he is not reliable enough to offer a full contract.
he s obviously settled for the money to the end of season and arrogantly known he would have other money offers ..especially with that thieving agent and their disrespect to Leeds after all Leeds did for him.. He evidently has no sense of loyalty to anything other than his wallet! fuck off kewell !
Talk about being taken to the cleaners. He eptomises many modern footballers who lack any substance whatsoever. What makes this worse though is that it was a conscious choice on his part not to bother himself for so many years.
Alex Ferguson had the good sense to see through him, shame Gerard Houlier didn't.
Frankly, I don't believe that Kewell can play well at all. Sometimes I don't even know he's on the field because he really doesn't make an impact to the game.
it makes me sick when i think about how much he has screwed with us. money for nothing. thank god is gone. never want to see him return.
Well there's certainly no shortage of strong opinions on
@jessica - yeah i reckon any of us would die to play for liverpool
@robbie - LOL
@dummy - Houlier had a limited budget, couldn't afford Duff so went with Kewell, to be fair it seemed a good option at the time
@vissagan - Welcome to My Anfield :-) True, for the most part he's like the invisible man. But whenever a cup final looms etc he can turn it on ;-)
@inderjit - yes i think an expensive lesson learned
If you were 1-0 down to Bolton with 3 minutes left in the pissing rain would you rather have Harry Kewell and Voromin on at the same time or be down to ten men and have one of them be Peter Crouch?
I know exactly which one I'd choose, let those two wasters go
@rua - A fellow irishman ? Welcome :-)
Never mind the last 3 minutes, I'd rather go the full 90 with 10 men and one of them Crouchie ;-)
