Wasted opportunity to blood more youngsters

With nothing left to play for at this stage of the season, I'd hoped that Rafa would take the opportunity against Manchester City to blood some more youth players (e.g. Plessis & Nemeth). Sadly it didn't quite work out that way but at least Insua & Lucas got their game.

Insua showed some nice touches, got forward often and played the full game. He's shown plenty of potential in the reserves and depending on transfer activity this summer we just might get to see more of him next season.

Lucas had an ok game, he keeps things nice and simple, but was well impressed with his overhead kick attempt. I reckon he's still just finding his feet and gaining confidence, next season we should see what Lucas is really made of.

I think Lucas Leiva has shown some flashes this season but overall has looked very ordinary. He needs to bulk up a bit, many players don't show their best until their second season so hopefully we will get to see why he was voted Brazilian footballer of the year.
Seriously I don't think Insua is going to make it unless he goes out on loan for a season or two. He badly needs first team experience to make it as a regular for us.

The reserves have a big match on Wednesday which is why more youngsters didn't play

Yep, the reserves do have a big game on Wednesday, against Aston villa reserves, for the chance to become the overall reserve champions.

It's a big game, and an honour the young lads thoroughly deserve. I am not certain that this is the reason why the likes of Plessis and Nemeth didn't play. Who knows?

I too was a bit peeved as to why Nemeth hasn't had a run out yet. By all accounts he is an exciting player and a fantastic prospect. I see no reason at all why Voronin should be getting more game time. He can't surely be staying next year?!

Still, Insua got a good game under his belt: he seemed assured on the ball and looked to do things when given the chance. I think at times we was a bit, not confused but... unsure, of his positioning in the defensive sense, but with experience playing with Carra, Agger, Hyypia and Skrtel he will be more relaxed and naturally able to take the right positions.

Granted the reserve game is fairly big, but he still gave Insua the full 90 and he's a key player for the reserves. I just think it would've been nice (even as a sub) for the other lads to get a bit of a game also.
Who knows maybe Rafa will give Nemeth & Plessis a run out against Tottenham.
