Surprise, surprise, we've signed yet another Spanish Starlet on a free (from Murcia Deportivo). It's interesting that the official Liverpool site describes Emmanuel Mendy as being 'petit' (LINK).
WTF ? How often do you hear footballers being described as 'petit' (Arsenal might beg to differ) ? Still at least they also describe him as being 'powerful' which is considerably more reassuring, although at 18 years of age, it's not like he's got much 'growing' left to do.

The petit part is worrying but with the quality of recruits Rafa gets in the youth teams, the odds are that there is something special about Mendy. It will be interesting to see how progresses :-)
i dont get very excited about any youth signings cos i know nearly every single one of them will never make it - am dying to hear of keano and barry being signed - thats the sort of news i want to hear
There are lots of youngsters who will make the step up. Insua, Pacheco, Nemeth, Hobbs, Spearing, Anderson, Hammill, Darby, Plassis, San Jose and Huth are just a few for you to look at. Then there the likes of Amoo, Eccelston, Irwin stc.. from the academy.
Mendy looks like a good player and it will be interesting to see how he progresses.
Give it time. Empires like dynasty's take time to build.

@jessica - very very true, hope some of these youth players start making a firm breakthrough soon enough
@disgruntled - I'm sure we'd all love to see some big signings, but it's important to stock up in the reserves and improve the quality of youths coming through also
@anonymous - that's an interesting list of potentials there. I wouldn't go so far as to say they'll all make it at Liverpool but most of those should go on to be solid pros
Maradona could have been described as powerful and petit at that age. There is still time for him to grow a couple of incges even after 18.
