24 shots, 69% possession, and 1 referee

Gerrard scored his 100th goal, only for the referee to disallow it for some unknown reason. It's one thing for the crowd to be labelled the 12th man, but when the referee is the 12th man, it's a bit of a sucker punch. Can't really blame the referee for 2 points lost though.

The harsh reality is we lacked the creativity required to carve open a stubborn Stoke City who were determined to defend for 90 minutes. Despite our huge number of shots, most were from distance, and only 6 were on target.

Even though we clearly dominated the game, most of the lads played very poorly. I feel sorry for Dossena and Keane who are struggling to find their form / confidence. I had hoped the team would build on the victory over Manchester United but it appears that confidence booster has been wasted.

Gerrard was a selfish twat. I can understand his desire to want his 100 goals but not at the expense of the team. He didnt contribute much other than to always try and play himself in and then blow the shots off target. He put himself before the good of the team.

Keane looks like his confidence is completely shattered. I thought this might be the easy game he needed to start scoring but shit happens. Hope Rafa plays him against Crewe - he just has to score in that one.

We should be top of the league right now and I'm gutted that most of the players threw away that opportunity.

Thats so typical of Liverpool over the years. Every time it looks like we are going to make a go of a title challenge we slip up. After beating the Scum we really had to follow it up with a run of good form. This was just crap.

Rafa really needs to leave.

It was just one of those games. Its not like its the end of the world. Shit happens.

Sadly this sums up why we will not win the league this year... Sorry as I am to say this but Man Ure or Chelsea would have found the back of the net and scored a hat full.
We attacked brightly for 3 mins and created some good stuff. Sadly in not allowing SG's goal the team turned off and passed themselves to death and gave the fans some catching practice.
Stoke conceeded 10 in 4 games and yet we couldn't break them down....

We beat Utd and Marseilles and we are on top of the world. Then the Stoke game happens and we start spouting rubbish like this. Rafa must go, Gerrard is selfish and does nothing. Really? Thats hopeless sensationalism. Yes we may not win the league but it wont be as a result of the Stoke game. Marathon not a sprint. Come on guys. Give them a chance.

How often do the Champions draw 0-0 against teams like Stoke at home?

Liverpool don't have what we call a "very creative midfield player". Player that can dribble, can beat 2 to three player... and can make a killer pass... I don't see this quality in gerrard, xabi, kuyt, mascherano, lucas, plesis, riera, .. bring on pachecho..

What is this? Rafa bashing, doom forseeing medium? Guys, all of us are pissed. No need to bash a player or coach for a poor result when we have had 2 good results that week. Mark my words, Arsenal lost to Fulham, and likewise, Chelsea and Mancs will too, to some small team. This is a marathon, not a 100 metre race.

are we going to see another freefall

I think Rafa should have rotated more :-)

This was not Rafa's fault...we had Torres, Keane, Gerard, Kuyt, Riera...etc. The players seemed like Stoke should roll over and die because we are Liverpool and at Anfield?

At least Chelsea and Manure dropped points as well.

@roger - discipline has never really been Stevie G's strong point... you're right about Keane only needed that 1st goal to settle him down

@derek - well said ;-)

@king dalglish - would you really want to swap Mascherano for anyone else ? What about Xabi & Gerrard, they can both make awesome killer passes when on form. Like yourself, I can't wait to see what Pachecho can do though :-)

@abhiram - very true, I guess most of us just hoped the lads would go on a run of good form after the Man Utd game

@sa lfc fan - lol, ah the good old rotation myth... can't be blaming this one on Rafa at all...

Well I'm still all happy about the Manchester United win :P but yeah, these kinda results are very frustrating. More so when people come up to me all smirking and say, Stoke, huh? Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Paul Heron said...

@thedropper - yeah I don't want to let this result overshadow the victory against Man Utd. It was far too much fun :-)

Exactly, let's just stay positive. I had predicted this rather unbelievable result on my newspaper blog way back in July, so ever since The Win, I'm a great believer in optimism :D
Stoke may come and Stoke may go, but we will never walk alone :P
