Crewe could be just the tonic for Keane

This could be a double edged sword for Keane, if he scores, it should give him the confidence to relax and perform in subsequent games. On the other hand if he doesn't score against a team of Crewes calibre, that's bound to shatter his confidence even more than it already is.

This isn't the first and no doubt the last time that he has experienced goal scoring droughts. In fact I reckon all strikers have experienced the same at some stage of their careers. But the great thing about Keane is that he has always managed to bounce back and start scoring again.

Too many people are prematurely writing off Keane, but Keane is an excellent striker. Whether Rafa chooses to risk him tomorrow night or go with the youngsters up front (Pacheco, Nemeth, Ngog) remains to be seen.

The problem with Keane lacking any confidence is that he is too eager to score which results in him taking crap shots directly at the keeper instead of placing them.

I do think he's overvalued at £20m, which is what I think bothers most people. But he's a great player who will start scoring eventually.

Its so stupid how people focus on Keane when the whole team is playing shit. Once the team start playing well then Keane will do well also.

I'm a gooner so heres an interesting fact for ye and long may it continue.

Every premiership team that Robbie Keane has left in the premiership, they have gotten relgated the following season. Coventry, Leeds and Wolves. Hopefully the trend continues and spurs get relegated.

So in short, no matter how shit he may be, dont ever let him leace unless ye want championship football.

wow...that's an interesting statistic! And Spurs do look like they'll stay bottom for some time. I hope Rafa notices this trend and latches on to him! And of course, I hope Keane gets great in the Red :)

he was a bad buy. he looks completely lost on the pitch. not worth 20mil.

I have faith in Robbie. Things will work out just fine. All it takes is just one goal....

I hope he does get his game against Crewe, it looks like his confidence is completely shattered and Crewe should be easy enough for him. After that, happy days :-)

The thing about Keane is that this is the REAL test of his career. He's never had the responsibility of expectancy in his career. Every club he's played for never blamed him when things weren't working out. Now we have no time for a 10 game run of poor form. £20M strikers mis-firing for more than 4 league games is a luxury we can't afford at the moment I support him and on his day Robbie Keane IS a £20M striker and more. But if he can't show the consistency and handle the pressure than over a full season he's not. The worry I have is that Keane does the opposite of what most other strikers do when they're unconfident. He forces it with fancy flicks and deft touches instead of playing it simple. But all that does is increas the crowd's anxiety and makes him even more unconfident. Then you get more flicks and stuff. Vicious cycle. The best we can do is get behind him cos he's one of ours but I do worry a bit that his inconsistency will be exposed and his lack of confidence will affect his form further.

I'd rather have Keane at 20M than Berba at 30M. Besides isn't there like a year age gap between the 2?

Berba maybe a little better than Keane but he sulks a lot and I think Jol said that when you up against it you don't want Berba in the team...maybe he had a point?

Personally I would like to see LFC play 4-2-3-1 with Babel and Keane on the wings cos I think Keane is much better Kuyt:-)...but what do I know, I'm not a manager.

@dummy - yeah, you can definitely see an edginess in his play, not sure if i agree that he's overvalued at £20million though.... we'll have to see how the season pans out

@stu - thanks for the insight, but I'm pretty confident LFC will buck the trend ;-)

@thedropper - it's not entirely inconceivable that Spurs go down ;-)

@jessica - that's the spirit :-)

@roger - i hope you're right

@sa lfc fan - Keane is definitely so much more of a people person, as a player he's good to have around the dressing room (as Torres has said himself). Players like Berba who like to sulk and can't be bothered putting in much effort when things aren't going their way aren't worth the effort and have a demoralising effect on teams.
