Doubt we'll have another 8-0 annihilation

It has been 8 long years since we last played Stoke City. God scored a hat trick in a game we won 8-0 at their place. But I think it's safe to say that they're a much improved side since then (mind you, so are we). It's common place for new teams to become the whipping boys of the Premier League.

But Stoke have shown that they're capable of scoring some sneaky goals. That other team from Liverpool (you know the little one) have already beaten them 3-2. Also they did manage to beat Aston Villa, which is more than we could do. So maybe we shouldn't take them too lightly tomorrow.

This is the perfect game for Robbie Keane to really kick some ass. We have hit some good form and the game is at Anfield so i think at worst we should be aiming for 4-0. I would play 4-2-3-1 with Torres as the lone striker; Babel, Gerrard and Keane to back him up; Mascherano and Alonso as defensive midfielders; Skrtel and Carragher as centre backs;Dossena and Reira on either side of them. I still dont think Kuyt is good enough, but Rafa loves him and bet he starts in place of Babel. Go Reds, keep up the good work.

Got to agree with Paul. They look like a bunch of tough cookies.
I'm not overly confident of this one at all, but I think we should get the three points one way or another. They have scored goals this season, we need to be careful on the break, especially.

On another note, I hope we get to see Babel on the right and Riera on the left with Torres up front alone at some point this season.
I can't help feeling that this would be a devastating front three.

This game seems made for Robbie to start scoring for us. All he needs is a couple of goals, then the rest will follow. Its all about confidence for strikers. Torres can also use it as an exercise to work on his fitness levels. Will be shocked if we dont take all 3 points from this one.

Stoke are like a banana skin team, you take them for granted and they f**k you over. Just as well there's no Everton fans on here as they're a little sensitive about being referred to as the smaller team in Liverpool. Silly blue shite if you ask me.

Let teh slaughter begin. I bet Anfield is going to be dead quiet for this game. How many times over the years have we lost points to teams we should easily slaughter?

@scottt d - I don't care what the score is as long as we win and hopefully that Keane will open his goal scoring account, all it takes is one goal to get his confidence going.

@7LFC7 - having Riera & Babel on both flanks at the same time is a mouth watering prospect ;-)

@jessica - agreed

@dummy - yeah, it's far too easy to take your foot off the gas against the 'easier' teams, only for us to end up dropping silly points :-(

@Paul,
Mate, you give too much repect to Stoke. Expecting Liverpool to win and being ok with a 1-0 or 2-0 victory against teams like Stoke is criminal offence.

Agreed they have scored goals and have played well, but they have not played against a great team like us. Everton's and Villa's defence was particularly not that good against them and yet Everton managed to win which says a lot about their defence. We'll see what they can do against us.

@abhiram - i don't think of it as giving them too much respect, more a case of hoping we don't make the mistake of not giving them any respect.

Football is a funny game, and unlikely victories / draws happen all the time.

The most important thing is to get 3 points from any game. Playing Stoke, I'd expect nothing less and the scoreline is the least important thing to me.

Very bad game for us!

We will rue our missed chances. Before the game, i thought of reducing the goal difference between Chelsea and us at the top. We lost two crucial and important points at home. Of what help is it if we win all the games against the big three(Say and draw such games!

@abhiram - sad but true, 30 shots, 70% possession, and one referee who cancelled out Stevie G's 100th goal for LFC
