Time for Keane to shine in Torres absence

While I still believe Keane and Torres will likely make our best strikeforce since Rush and Dalglish, Keane has yet to make much of an impact with us. It's called a bedding in period, it's perfectly normal.

LFC have confirmed that Torres hamstring injury will keep him out for at least a few weeks, which means no Torres for the match against Manchester United. Gerrard too might be a bit iffy for the match. The gloom mongers will likely be out in force saying we've no chance without both those players.

In spite of this, I really hope Rafa chooses to go for an attacking line up against them. Keane has bags of talent and proven ability. It's only a matter of time before he starts scoring and what better time than against United.

could not agree more but surely rafa has to play him as striker not a winger. can not see the logic on the weekend with him bringing on ngog to replace torres, and still keeping keane on the wing. keane should of been given the freedom to do what he does best - and that is pinching goals, not playing 100 metres from the goals. play ngog in the reserves, and i reckon put keane and babel up front if torres is not fit. i really hope rafa attacks united coz it is our home game, why be scared of scum?

Now that we've signed Riera, and still have Babel, Kuyt and Pennant. I don't think we'll be seeing Keane on the wings anymore. The goals will flow, it only takes one to get the ball rolling.

Keane has had to take some stick for not scoring yet but its no big deal. His track record is proof enough that he can score the goals. All we need is a little patience.
I dont want to be the voice of doom. But this is Rafa we are talking about here. Look at the formation he put out for Villa. If he is that negative against them, we can expect more of the same against the Scum who are far superior to Villa.

@anonymous - i think most of us are hoping for the very same, but only Rafa knows what team / tactics he will pick

@dummy - agreed

@roger - i really hope not :-(

it was so obvious from the start of the villa game that keane wasnt happy with where he was playing. it is one thing to put kuyt on the wing cos he is used to not scoring. but for keane he is a real striker who needs to be playing there. he needs a goal to build his confidence also. i hope rafa doesnt try to waste keanes talent like that again.

I'm starting to get really pi@#ed of with Rafa and his nonsensical tactics. Why put players in completely the wrong positions. Why pay 11m for a quality player, and proven goal scorer, leave him on the bench, and play a 1.5m frenck kid with a slightly dodgy track record. Why pay 21m for a striker and play him on the wing and then take him off. Its like in all his arrogance, rafa is trying to take all the praise by doing something unusual on the off chance it pays off. But in actual fact, all he's doing is killing our players confidence, preventing them from reaching optimum form, and stopping the team from being able to gel and find a winning balance. Sorry Rafa, but you aint the genious you think you are.

Well said paul, its nice to find a patient kopite outside of the forums. I admittedly have been frustrated by keane but with reira i think that he will be put to use.

@roders25 - admittedly there are times when Rafas decision making leaves me a little baffled.

For the most part though I can agree with him and try to consider things from the perspective of balancing the team based on available players (form/injury etc).

At the moment the only person I think who would do a better job than Kuyt on the right wing is Gerrard.

Between Riera & Babel, I don't think we'll have to worry about seeing Keane on the left again.

@anon - patience is a virtue ;-)
