Who benefits from Degen's injury ?

Degen is after breaking a couple of ribs and joins Aurelio on our injury hit list, which leaves us looking a little light in our full back positions. Dossena and Insua have the left-side sewn up. But what about the right-side ?

Many Kopites would love to see Stephen Darby make the breakthrough to the first team. He impressed in pre-season and with his consistency at youth levels. But he didn't even make the bench against Crewe tonight.

Daniel Agger hasn't featured much for us this season and must be wondering where his next game is coming from. It's highly likely that Carragher will be playing at right back while Arbeloa has problems with form/fitness. So Degens injury could end up being the catalyst which allows Agger to find his form and cement his place in central defence again.

You are right. Agger will be our future. But Carragher on the right, although is good for our defense, is bad for our attack. I agree that Arbeloa is not creating 5 assists per match or scoring hat-tricks, but he's a little better than Carra in that aspect and particularly in that position.

Agger and Skrtel with Carra on the right has its advantage that we have CBs who not only defend well but are also good while going forward. But every one who's seen our game knows that our problem has always been the wings and our central midfield as of now, is one of the best in England.

Darby, Insua and Plessis will get their chances later in the season.

It kinda sucks that we now have 2 full backs who are injury prone as hell. At least they were both freebies though.

Really hope Agger and Skrtel form an awesome partnership :-)

@abhiram - i'm not sure if Darby, Insua and Plessis are ever going to be anything more than stop gap players. None of them are truly exceptional which is what is likely needed to make the breakthrough.

@jessica - i hope so too ;-)
