No joke for Skrtel this time round

Last time Skrtel got injured was for something minor, so I decided to have a little fun with it. Over 30,000 people have checked out the "Unthinkable / Chuck Norris" post (link) and left over 330 comments (so far).

But this time round, it's no laughing matter. With only a few minutes left of the match against Manchester City the guy ended up twisting his knee, which is going to lead to a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

At least Agger is fit again, and should be eager to make an impression. It just goes to show that having 3 world class defenders and a solid veteran is necessary to cover all the injuries we invariably experience.

This could be a very good thing for us. Having Agger sitting around doing nothing wasnt good for him. If Carra and Skrtel had carried on their great partnership, then Agger wouldnt be getting his game at all. He only has 18 months left on his contract so we need him to sign an extension asap. The only way he would consider that would be if he was playing.

Absolutely gutted for the lad. Looked really serious but he is a tough lad who will bounce back.

Time for Agger to remind us all how good he is. Hope the Chelsea game isnt too soon for him. Would prefer if he had at least one game before that to get into the swing of things.

This is really bad news, because we have only got 2 central defenders and a ROOKIE available for the Champions League. Remember Sami is not eligible to play this season.

The way he went down makes it look really serious. He could be out for the season but the scans tomorrow will confirm what to expect.

Carra is a hard bastard. He just told Skrtel to get back up even though he was in agony !

Carra is still there with now Agger coming in. The backline will prevail. YNWA. Hope Skrtel quickly recovers and torment all the opposing strikers !!

That tackle looked pretty brutal, hopefully he will recover quickly. This is a perfect chance for Agger to fight for his spot.

I fear for Skrtel and i hope he's alright. His and Carra's partnership was blossoming very well. Yes, Agger will get his chance now but guys, Skrtel's one of us. We should feel for him first and then think of alternatives. Reading some of the comments on Agger's chance gives a feeling that this injury to Skrtel is good for Liverpool. All i say is, this mishap is detrimental to the cause of Liverpool and i hope Skrtel makes a full and speedy recovery.

Which tackle Tood, the one on Alonso? What does that have to do with Skrtel, who fell awkwardly. Try and keep up will you?

Agger is a bit injury prone and Carra is not immune to injury either. So the fact that Hyypia isn't eligible to play in the Champions League is a little worrying but we should be ok due to our excellent start to this seasons campaign.

@roger - agreed that he probably wouldn't sign any extension if he's not getting his game.

@dagger - he's got Wigan & Atletico before Chelsea !?!

@roberto - ouch, I forgot about that :-(

@inderjit - hope it's not for the season, he's too good a player to be without, best wait on the results...

@mengboon - damn right our backline will prevail [i hope] ;-)

@abhiram - I agree it's not a good thing for Liverpool that Skrtel is injured. And although the circumstances are unfortunate, it's an opportunity for Agger to get an extended run of play and find his form again.

@dummy - I don't even want to contemplate that.
