Chelsea had been undefeated at home in the Premier League for far too long. To be the team to change all that, makes the victory so much sweeter. The manner in which we won makes it even better, tactics were spot on and the effort of most of our players can't be faulted.
To be top of the table and to have also beaten both Manchester United and Chelsea in the process, will inevitably be much talk about how we're genuine title contenders. Contenders yes we are, but it's how we handle the next few games against easier opposition, which will determine if the lads possess the required mentality mount a realistic title challenge.

What an amazing result. Amazing. Amazing. Can't believe it. Gerrard had a great game which is about time for him against Chelsea. But it's Carra who has to be the man of the match cos his interventions saved us a few times.
We have now exercised our demons by beating MU and CFC. The fixture list looks easy till 21 Dec (Arse Away). We must win these games before talking about winning the title.

This is so sweet. Top of the league!
Sorry for Alonso, he deserved his second goal.

Didn't get to see the game but so excited at the result! Let's hope this continues till the end of the season. It's been too long!
Sensational effort to beat both Manure and Chelski without Torres. Still too early to get too excited as Arsenal showed last year. The team selected today was perfect and can only get better when Torres is back and banging the goals in. The exciting thing for me is the way we played as a team right to the end. Chelsea and Manure have big names, but i don't think they are as tight as we are. The old saying that "a champion team will always beat a team of champions" comes to mind. Rafa has really worked this group of players into a fearsome unit. Long may it continue.

Hit the nail on the head there. I couldn't believe how cool the Reds were in the second half. I think they drew three fouls in the last five minutes, an incredible sign of maturity.
Scott D: Still too early to get too excited as Arsenal showed last year.
Good point. I'll keep my feet on the ground, but I reserve the right to be well pleased with events :-)
i'm elated!
but still early days though!
you know what I can't wait to do? Smile smugly at all the people who've given me stick about being a Red :D yeaaaaaaaa!

What a win! Saying that we should not get carried away and look at our next match against Pompey, i have a few observations to make:
1. I am worried about Mascherano. I think he’ll get himself into a mess and inturn put the team under stress. I personally don’t like players who ask the ref to show a card to an opposition players. This is, as i have observed, very common with South American players (Argentina and Brazil, in particular). I hope Rafa has a word with Mascher.
2. Riera and Alonso have been simply outstanding this season. Seeing Alonso, it feels as though its his first year at Liverpool (after his long lay-off) Kuyt has been his hard-working best. Gerrard is finally reaching the usual standards he’s set in the previous years. I think this game was his best this year.
3. Finally, Carra is simply amazing. He characterizes the true Liverpool spirit. And his and Agger’s partnership is blossoming. Did not see much of Agger’s forward runs this game (probably a decision made by him and the coach). The full-backs were much better. This might be probably due to Kuyt and Riera’s work in the defensive areas.
Overall a very good game. A complete game. Good attack, defense and creative game-play. A score line of 2-0 would have been icing on the cake but i’ll take a 1-0 victory against Chelski at Stam shit any day.
What I like about the team is that we have more players who are calm/good in possession, Gerrard, Alonso, Masch, Riera, Agger, Aurelio, Carra :-)...almost the everyone is. We just need some on the right in kuyts place.
I think people slate Aurelio a lot but he is a more than decent LB when fit and I like his confidence on the ball.
I also can't see LFC with any other manager for very long time. Rafa is a great manager, he made mistakes but compared to others he is real class. He amuses me with his comments. That said win or loose I think Rafa is a deffo keeper.
What he has achieved with all the crap he had to take, I take my hat off to him.
Well done LFC players, fans, staff and very well done LFC manager.
@everyone - greetings from Mauritius (on honeymoon), met loads of LFC fans here, plus we get to watch the match tonight :-)
@roger - carra was awesome, no question about it, loved seeing Gerrard perform well against Chelsea
@trond d - he deserved but i was just relieved he recovered well from his earlier slip up
@psych babbler - it would be so awesome if we could keep it up till the seasons end :-)
@scott d - couldn't agree more with :- "a champion team will always beat a team of champions"
@deiseach - nah, no need to keep your feet on the ground, you can sense this is our season (ok, i'm being hopelessly optimistic again, but i think this it)
@val - early days indeed, but it's gonna happen ;-)
@thedropper - you can keep that smug smile for several more months ;-)
@abhiram :-
1 - I'd hoped Mascher would've learnt his lesson after ManU last year, don't want to dampen his spirit but Rafa would do well to keep an eye on him
2 - am thrilled that Alonso is returning to his best (was worried after his treatment during the summer), and also that Riera has settled so quickly. Gerrard is maturing very nicely indeed
3 - how the f**k are we supposed to choose between Carra, Agger, and Skrtel now ??? (very welcome headache)
@sa lfc fan - i watched the match in jo'burg the day after my wedding (love SA big time). kuyt is having a very good season, not sure i'd want to sacrifice his defensive contributions any time soon (i'll change my mind for next seasons transfers). Aurelio is good but too injury prone, hope Dossena starts showing the form which led to us signing him !!
Hey Paul
Where about's in Mauritius are you? I used to live there. Just been back in UK for a couple of months and I'm missing the weather, bloody freezing here! Used to live in the north of the island, little place called Calodyne, about a minutes drive from the Legends Hotel. Anyway, have a great time. Yes, loads of Liverpool fans there. Used to go to a cafe / bar in Grand Bay all the time called The Blue Lagoon nearly everyday. The owner and wife were big Liverpool fans. Another guy there was a Utd fan, but he was a nice bloke. I never got a chance to say good-bye to them, such a shame. They probably wonder where I suddenly disappeared to.
Anyway, what a fantastic win against Chelsea. We fully deserved it in my opinion. Although listen to Chelsea fans you'd never know! Yes, they had a lot of possession but Reina didn't break a sweat! Just wish that excellent free-kick had gone in, that would have been brilliant.
Let's hope we can kick on against Portsmouth, such a vital game now. And come on Hull!!
Have a great time in Mauritius and have a Phoenix for me! Something I miss!
Cheers
Rik
@Rik - staying in Trou Aux Biches, it's very beautiful and romantic, absolutely loving it. Gonna head to Grand Bay on Friday and take some day cruises. This is such a beautiful country :-)
I'll have to try and pop in to the Blue Lagoon and say hello and goodbye for you ;-)
I'm curious what this Phoenix is but will have to find out !?!
@the soccer blogger - well i decided to sample the local brew last night... PHOENIX... it's a really really nice beer, wish we had it back home...
Hi Paul
It's Rik aka The Soccer Blogger. Having problems logging in so using Anonymous login...
Anyway, good to hear you're having a great time in Mauritius. I miss it, especially the sunshine! Not a lot here in the Isle of Man at the moment!
Trou Aux Biches, know it well. Used to play a bit of golf there but they closed the course at the beginning of the year.
Been to Mont Choisy beach yet?
Glad you found out what Phoenix is!
Wow, if you get to the Blue Lagoon, that would be great, cheers mate! If you're coming into Grand Bay from Trou aux Biche it's on the right just before the Police Station (on left hand bend) and Sunset Boulevard. Tell them I was the guy with the black scooter and wife with long dark curly hair. I've realised that even though I was there nearly every day and were good friends, I never actually knew their names, but I'm sure they will remember me (if you speak to the right guy, Utd fan, nice bloke). Always felt bad I wasn't able to say good-bye. He did a mean cafe au lait!
Enjoy your boat trip and the rest of the honeymoon mate

PS If you need any tips for places go go, restaurants or anything just let me know!
@Rik - went to Grand Bay today to go on a Catamaran (not sure of spelling) to Gabriels (i think) island. The 2 of us were dying from the sun (havent been burnt this bad in years) so didnt get a chance to check out Grand Bay other than the harbour :-(
Hi Paul
Yes, be very careful of the sun. You should be there in Jan / Feb. Even hotter but the humidity is the real killer. Hope you enjoyed the trip despite that though!
God, don't worry about not being able to go to the bar. Last thing you want to be doing on your honeymoon is running around doing favours for me!!
I'm still getting over the shock of the result tonight. How we lost that I'll never know :-( Unbelievable!
You enjoy the rest of your stay and hope the sunburn is ok!
Cheers
Rik
