We'll Never Walk Alone

It's often tempting to think that Liverpool fans are only in the UK and Ireland, but we truly have a global fanbase (most are outside UKI). You can always find a home away from home whenever you want to watch the match.

For example, I watched the Chelsea match in South Africa (got married on Saturday), as for tonights game against Portsmouth, I'm watching it in Mauritius. I've met loads of LFC fans here, which makes me almost forget I'm away from home and the atmosphere watching the games is just the same.

It amazes me that so many different cultures share the same love of LFC. I imagine it must be the same for anyone who has visited all sorts of other countries and found themselves at home surrounded by LFC fans ?

Couldn't agree more, I watched the Famous Gerrard winner against Olympiakos in some blokes kitchen in Hanoi, Vietnam! They spoke no english and my vietnamese leaves a lot to be desired but the international language of LFC was communication enough. YNWA

That's the plain truth. I'm a born Mauritian who spent the last 2 weeks in Mauritius on holiday and watched the last come-from-behind win there against Wigan. Now, I'm back in Lyon France. I'm just praying for Lyon to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League and meet up with LFC. Lately, I went to Switzerland to watch LFC in a pre-season match against Fribourg. We'll NEVER walk alone...

It must be Mauritius day on MyAnfield.net! Hello Paul! I would like to think you are having a lovely honeymoon here. Yes, this island swarms with proud LFC fans! A red afficionado for 35 years now, I shall be travelling to Anfield this December with my bro and cousins for the Hull game. May our beloved LFC sit at the top of the table till the end and beyond! YNWA.

Hailing from the paradise island of Mauritius. I've been a Liverpool fan since the early 90's and, i've never tasted Championship victory, but eagerly await results every week...whether through TV or the net.

We also have a ManU fanbase here, so you can imagine the taunting we have been forced to endure the past 2 decades. You guys (UK fanbase) are very lucky you can go to matches :(

Good luck for tonight's match, i hope we can hold top spot til Xmas. After that, i'm confident we'll have the best finish...as in the last 3 seasons.

Even more now we are now on top.

i couldn't agree more Paul, iv just completed a full round-the-world trip over the last 10 months starting on Jan 1st of this year, from here in Belfast and over all the countries in south, central and north America, Canada, Japan, China, and South Eastern Asia, no matter how small of a village or town i visited, i ALWAYS found a home from home with the amazingly vast amount of Liverpool fans everywhere. especially in se.Asia. utterly fantastic!

Regards,
Darren.

p.s. congratulations on the marriage mate!

@anon1 - the atmosphere in Anfield is just amazing, I reckon you'll be blown away cos it's been so long. It'll be after xmas before I head over to Anfield again, so I'm a little envious you get to go so soon ;-)

@weller - my God that goal was just bloody amazing, I still watch the DVD every couple of weeks, it never loses it's appeal :-)

@anon2 - that'd be a handy number if we get Lyon, hope you can get tickets for the Liverpool end. It would be a shame to be stuck with the Lyon fans when we score ;-)

@anon3 - yet another who gets to go to Anfield so soon... 35 years ? You got so many of the good years, but a new age is coming for us :-)

@anon4 - I think we're gonna hold the top spot till xmas, I really feel this is gonna be our year :-)

@anon5 - I couldn't put it better myself...

@sa lfc fan - I've long suspected you were South African ;-)

I'll not be neglecting My Anfield next week when we're back home.

My wife is from South Africa (and is one of the ManU fans!!) but is in training to support LFC ;-)

@anon6 (maldives) - that's where my brother went on his honeymoon (you see we're all connected somehow) !!

@jason - i lived in Malaysia for a year when I was a kid back in the 80s, i was far too young at the time to head to the pub though and meet other LFC fans ;-)

@baurzhan - funny thing is, most people who live outside the UK or Ireland know far more about the history of LFC than the 'locals' do. At least everyone loves and respects it though ;-)

@darren mcentee - long time no hear, was following many of your photos on your Picasa web albums. It truly looked astonishing, looked like you were having an amazing time, good to hear you did :-)

Trust me, I'm doing my bit to spread the LFC love in India. In fact, I have a pretty good conversion rate in pointing people towards the only club to support :)
even in bangkok, where I am at the moment, there's a heavy presence of the right kinda Reds :)
Congratulations on the wedding! :)

@thedropper - cheers :-) qnd it's good to hear you're spreading the word in India & Thailand

Well no ones perfect :-)

My wife is a Liverpool fan...she works with someone who grew up near Anfield and is a huge LFC fan, he is always telling her how great it was to grow up there.

Enjoy the game to tonight people...Rafa said Babel for striker :-)...YES

Congrats to you both, as a SA RED i had more than a few choice Afrikaans words (your wife will teach you) for that so called front line in the Portsmouth game last night, i nearly destroyed my TV set. It appears that no Torres means no front line (Riera excluded) & that scares me.

Wish you a happy married life mate. But why oh why a manc???? ;-)

Paul Heron said...

@sa lfc fan - nah, she's as close to perfect as perfect can be (plus she's reading this over my shoulder ;-) )

@james - unfortunately YNWA never got an airing all night long :-(

but... cliche coming... it was still the best day of our lives

@SA RED - she has already taught me some choice Afrikaans words (which I'll refrain from writing here!!!). The frontline with or without Torres has its off days, still waiting on the likes of Keane to come good... but would you really want to forgo the emotional rollercoaster ride of the Reds waiting until the dying minutes to win a game ???

@abhiram - Cheers mate :-) I fancied the challenge of converting a 'true manc' from the dark side...

And yeah, there're a lot more diehards here.

From the corn fields of rural Illinois where football fans are as rare as Crystal Palace seasons in the top flight, I say 'allo.

It isn't that there aren't LFC fans here. I'm probably the only football fan around here. Still even though I'm out here by myself, I know I'm not going it solo... Hey! Someone should write a song about that. Maybe we could sing it before the matches:)

Paul Heron said...

@jessica - at least you don't support Chelsea ;-)

@micah seymour - i suppose that's the cool thing about the internet, as it provides an alternate means of connecting with like minded people :-)
