Maybe Gerrard got Keane subbed

Keane scored an excellent brace, and the confidence in his play was evident immediately after the first goal. This should relieve much of the pressure he has been feeling lately and result in more goals from him.

Of course, most of us would have loved for Keane to get his hat trick. Perhaps Gerrard wanted the same for him. However, Gerrard seemed a little careless in his play, continually trying to play Keane through for a hat trick instead of taking the best option (maybe this is why Rafa really subbed Keane).

It was important that Liverpool get back to winning ways after recent results, and nothing less should have been expected against West Brom. All that really matters is the team and that confidence is restored in the side.

Stevie G is prone to tactical blunders though. He lacks discipline which is why Rafa has often played him out on the wing or up front to allow more disciplined players in central midfield. The return of Torres was exciting stuff. Lots of goals is what we need to close the gap with Chelsea. After a few games we can look forward to a confident Torres and Keane partnership.

there is an interview on the lfc tv with rafa where he says the real reason is becuase he wants to change tactics and have someone faster up front to stretch teams

Another possibility is that Rafa is just trying to keep Keane fresh for the title run in, much like he did with Torres last season. The big difference being that this season we might actually have a title run in.

Great to see Keane scoring though. Arbeloa is another who had a great game but he's too inconsistent so we're still in need of a couple of quality full backs to complement the rest of our excellent squad.

There is nothing wrong with Gerrard wanting to give Robbie Keane a bit of a confidence boost. We were 2-0 up and safe so no harm was done. We got the 3 points we wanted anyway.

@robbie - i think Gerrard has improved the tactical side of his game this season. In this case though it was probably just that he wanted to do Keane a favour given that the game was pretty much wrapped up.

@dummy - well i certainly hope we do have a title run in this season ;-)

We need to buy Ribery...

I actually wanted Keane to get his hat trick if he only shot when he was battling with the defender and not try to go around...but both his goals were cooly taken...and all 3 left footed goals.

we actually have a couple of players who seem to able to use both feet...Gerard, Torres, Carra, Riera, Xabi, Arbeloa even Kuyt I think...any more?

Did I mention we should buy Ribery?

@sa lfc fan - i think you've mentioned Ribery in a few posts now ;-)

(but it would be a very nice signing)

Why are fans so ignorant about Arbeloa?

He's one of the best right backs in the league and ultra consistent.

Start watching him instead of just spouting tired drivel.

Agreed, Arbeloa is one of the better right backs in this country, perhaps Europe. I think he one of the better man to man markers.

I think RB is keepin Keane fresh for Wednesday night, hopefully we will play a decent side that can win the game. I do feel that we are still liable to do better in the cup competitions but if you said to me "you will win the premier league this year but you have to lose to spurs in the carling cup, lose to Histon in the 3rd round of the fa cup and get knocked out by Man U in the champions league" id bite your hand off!!!!

@Anonymous - I quite like Arbeloa...and I also think Aurelo is good enough as well besides injuries.

I would keep them both but also get better players as well if Dossena and Degen don't make it.

@sa lfc fan - unfortunately we can't rely on Aurelio to string too many games together. I can't remember the last time we had a player so injury prone (some people might suggest Kewell, but was he ever really injured !?!).

SA LFC FAN said...

Kewell had a good spell of injury but always suffered unfortunate recoveries at the wrong time like Champions league finals :-)

A fit Kewell would have been wonderful...imagine to choose between Riera or (fit)Kewell on the left with Babel or Ribery(last time I will mention him) on the right.

@Paul Heron

Kewell most definitely suffered legitimate injuries, and unlike some, tries to play through if possible.

Comments like yours that insinuate that bloke faked just to claim a paycheque is grossly misinformed.

Unfortunately Kewell is just one of those players that has been susceptible to niggles and twinges. It's the way the cookie crumbles in football sometimes.

@tim - it was more a tongue in cheek reference to Kewells propensity to be injured, not helped by the fact that the Melwood staff more often than not couldn't find anything physically wrong with him and Rafa himself suggested his problems were more likely mental in nature.

Big Fat Scouser raiding the Hood:
@ SA LFC FAN re Dossena & Degan, I watched these two played today against Spurs, I know it's only one game but they looked crap. I mean they let the crosses passed thru and not marking their players, their passes weren't completed. We definitely needed new left & right back to compete with Aurelo & Arbeloa.
