Our unbeaten run couldn't last forever

I feared Spurs might take some momentum from their 4-4 draw with Arsenal and that would impact our result. We've been lucky with some of our results this season but were unlucky not to win this one. Karma sucks sometimes.

Bringing Babel on for Keane seemed like an idea to keep Spurs at bay but in reality Babel had one of his off days and couldn't hold the ball up as well as Keane did. Carragher was unlucky with his OG, but despite his awesome performances over the years, he does score one too many OGs for my liking.

As much as the result hurts, we're still in a very healthy position. All that's needed is for the lads to show their strength of character and put the result behind them. We've got several 'easier' games coming up and it's best to gain maximum points from them before we face Hull City and Arsenal next month.

Redknapp outfoxed Benitez in the second half. Plain and simple. They had effective substitutions. We had crap ones. Babel is better on the wings and not up front. We controlled most of the game and had some clearcut chances which showed we are missing Torres badly. Kuyt continues to impress but Keane still hasnt adapted yet. I worry for our future and am not convinced we have enough quality in the squad to win the league.

Paul ek is GATVOL ! (wife can translate) I wish I could put a positive spin on last nights defeat (but then again I didnt just get married) as I have said before that frontline really worries me Babel, Kuyt,Keane,Penant & Benayoun more often look like 2nd Div players & I just cannot see howwe can take the league or anything else for that matter as long as we must rely on them. i sometimes think that if an opposing team played without a goalkeeper these five would still have difficulty scoring & one good game in ten is just not good enough....lynch themI say....as you can see I had a bad night and I am as irritable as hell...Bruce SA

It was the best type of loss for us. We didn't deserve to lose and controlled the game. This should help keep us on our toes and not let our guard down. This could be just as defining a result as the ManUtd and Chelsea ones were. The Premier League trophy will come to Anfield at the end of the season.

sigh, that nipped my top-of-the-league smugness right in the bud :( it was extremely frustrating, we paid for the chances we missed, but i guess you're right, we had to lose sometime. hopefully there are better times ahead.

Its hard to criticise the team or Rafa. We should have won but its just one of those damn things. Carra made a bad mistake but he has saved us so many times that its easy to forgive and forget. Benayoun and Babel were terrible though. If the team as a whole continues to play the way they do then we will win the league.

Another tale of not taking your chances. The game should've been 2-0 and we'd be sitting pretty atop the table. But if you don't take 'em, more times than not, the opposition tend to take theirs.

And Paul, isn't it funny how we now look upon Hull as a serious threat? Amazing really.

Hull, a serious threat? I think not. Yeah, they might cause problems in the matches we play against them but I have no doubt we'll finish ahead of them.

The manner of the defeat on Saturday was a kicker - once we were ahead I thought there was only going to be one winner - but Paul is quite right to say the run couldn't last forever. Anyone how thinks one defeat somehow represents failure is being unbelievably pessimistic. Bring on the next game.

Babel barely made an impact, maybe it's the rain, plus he was playing outta position....he's a natural winger!

Confidence is riding high at WHL, they could beat MU & Chelsea next!

Liverpool were unlucky overall. If Bent had scored an own goal in 1st half then the game would have changed completely. Also we hit the bar several times in 2nd half with a claim to handball from a Spurs player. If a penalty had been given then Spurs would have caved in. Redknapp was lucky as well as being astute. Benitez never got the rub of the green.

I feel that a reality check could have benefits this early in the season. How we recover from this will establish if we are ready to be Champions. First lesson is to "finish the game off" if we have any hope to emulate Chelsick or Man Ure. Its early days and the learning curve is steep to become Champions.

@everyone - well, i'm back, and burnt alive, time to focus on LFC again ;-)

@roger - would it really be fair to suggest Rafa was outfoxed, it looked to me more like we deserved to win and were unlucky not to...

@bruce - thanks for the new word :-) I hope I don't end up using it anytime soon though. The next few Premier League games will largelt determine whether I do or don't. This is only one bad result so far this season so I'm not gonna worry too much yet.

@dummy - interesting perspective and you could very well be right

@thedropper - of course there'll be better times ahead ;-)

@jessica - yup, it's just one of those things (i hope)

@tim robinson - Hull City are certainly very surprising, I'm sure after xmas they'll drop to mid table at best. But for now they seem to be on a roll...

@deiseach - exactly, it's just one defeat... can't wait to see the teams response over the next few games...

@val - babel is a natural winger who thinks he's a natural striker ;-)

@goldenliverbird - sure, we should have finished the game off, but like you say, we hit the bar several times. Poor luck really.
