How cool is it to be top of the league ?

Normally being top of the table in December should be cause for celebration but the boos which rang around Anfield last night painted a different picture. Frustrating 0-0 draws against Stoke, Fulham and now West Ham at home have obviously take their toll on the Anfield faithful.

The main reason most people might be fed up is because they look at games like those and think we should have won those. But what about the games we did win or draw when we didn't really deserve to ? Those kinds of games generally balance out over the course of a season.

We're top of the Premier League, despite not even playing our best football yet this season, how cool is that ? Hopefully the lads can cope with the pressure of being the league leaders, as it's a new experience for them. The important thing is to ensure we remain title contenders, until we do start playing good football.

Right on with your idea mate. I too am hoping that when the next set of important fixtures do come up, we should be on the top of the pile and playing well. We might be playing just 50 to 60% of our potential. We should better it ASAP.

Keane and Babel have to fire. In the absence of Torres, we need them very badly.

Yesterday was an appalling game. It is possibly the worst game I have ever seen Gerrard play. In the absence of Torres he should have stepped up but instead he seems more anxious than usual. Where was the killer instinct, clever one-twos?

Dossena in my book was unbelievably cr@p. Benyayoun should be stuck on the bench for the rest of the season.

Rafa's tactics were unbelievable.. Reira and Benyayoun didnt have the best of games and he hauled off Keane to replace him with a two bit striker in N'gog???? Keane was starved of service the whole game.

Why didn't he replace Reira with Babel on 65mins move Kuyt to the right where he was constantly drifting to by force of habit...and replace Benyayoun with N'gog then attack attack and "play without fear" in his own words??

The fact we are top of the league just flatters us as we have constantly failed to beat lesser opposition in Stoke,Spurs,Fulham and a poor West Ham team.

Our lack of imagination against those teams suggests we will be lucky to be second at end of season! My feeling is we will eventually end up 3rd.

I feared we would end up not capitalising on the weekends results. Beating Chelsea and ManUtd were beautiful achievements but poor results against the smaller teams detracts from it. I hope I'm wrong but I've got bad feeling that both Chelsea and ManUtd will finish above us again this season.

@abhiram - I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dying to see Torres back and fit already...

@goldenliverbird & dummy - it's not inconceivable that we could end up finishing third, but it's far more desirable to think about winning the Premier League which is what I'm going to focus on for now ;-)

Thinking it cool to be top of the league now is quite a pessimistic outlook in fact. It smacks of someone realising we are not playing well and not expecting to win the title so we might as well revel in being top for as long as it lasts.

Be more positive! ;)

We need a strong run now to restore the positivity.

Well, we won against Chelsea and Mancs which we never used to do in the previous seasons. We drew with Fulham, Stoke and West ham which is not abnormal for us this time of the year. We usually lose some points during December and January. BUT, We can say we have done something differently this season as we are still at the top. We can and should play better but still, the position we are in does not warrant such criticism.

I too am not very happy with the performance of the general and some players in particular. But, i feel we need to wait for some time. Player injuries, friendlies and bad form have had their say in our team more than their performances. Once the team is settled and playing well, we'll see their true form.

@twombly red - actually I'm quite optimistic about our title chances, not too many people would agree with me on that though...

The Liverpool of Old used to start their title charge after Xmas!!
so being top of the league before Xmas is NOTHING to be happy about... just take Arsenal last year... do you want Gerrard to look like a divvy like Gallas?? Eh ?

If I was GILLET & HICKS I would buy BIG in the january window as that represents our best chance of winning the league
