In recent home games, teams have been willing to sit back and defend against us, and we've lacked the requisite creativity to break them down. The next time a team comes to Anfield to defend, I hope we can see the lads recreate the kind of form which saw them pick apart Bolton (3-0).
For the first hour, we completely dominated possession while also playing some beautiful attacking football. Alonso & Gerrard were masterful in midfield, spreading play throughout the pitch. Riera & Benayoun were constant attacking threats who were well supported by Insua & Carragher throughout. As for Keane he's looking back to his confident best, with his well taken brace of goals.
It looks like we're about to enter the new year top of the league despite not playing great football for most of the season so far. We've got the right players for playing beautiful attacking football, hopefully they now have the confidence to play that particular brand of football for the rest of the season.

Totally agree mate it was a wonderful performance and i loved the fact that all our defenders were pushing forward throughout the match.
That was definitely the best game I've seen us pay in such a long time. Reina was about the only player who didn't have an excellent game but that was ONLY because the rest of our team were so f**king brilliant. Long may that continue.
Great game for everyone but you never mentioned Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger who were in total control at the back.
@nabeel arshad - I really hope we get to see a lot more of that from the lads
@dummy - it must have been quite boring for him, but it's great for the rest of us
Yes this was the first game that i actually enjoyed watching for a long while. It was an absolute joy to watch and if we continue like this I have no doubt we will win the premier league. Just think that Skrtel and Torres have not played for ages and our team can only get better when they come back. Carragher should continue at right back and Insua at left back. Robbie Keane has hit some awesome form and Xabi Alonso has been brilliant. I hope Babel can get a run and show some form as well. Lets hope it continues.
@scottd - hope you enjoyed todays thrashing of Newcastle even more ;-)
Well it was bettered today mate....
5-1 and that too without the in form Keane, one of the best forwards around in Torres and our usual full back is simply awesome.
Long may it continue. :)
@abhiram - i sure didn't see that coming ;-)
Today's performance was the best I have seen in ages reminiscent of the Liverpools of old. The frightening thing is that we still have scope to get better especially Gerrard.
3 cheers anyone for the return of Skrtel !! In two weeks time el Nino will make his long awaited league return while keane will be champing at the bit. It is my feeling rafa wants us in the right psychological frame of mind for the 2nd half which accounts for his baffling decisions.
Pennant can leave as well as Dossenna with Insua excelling in his slot. January transfer window will be interesting to say the very least.
Lucas played well today in my opinion well done to the lad.
Come on blow the roof you Reds in 2009 with a traditionally better 2nd half of the season!!
Paul, do you see the tactic Benitez has used in these 2 games?
He subbed Kuyt and Gerrard to rest them and they are sure shots for the Newcastle game. He allowed Keane to continue and get a full game for a change. One with a narrow perspective might say that was for Keane to get his hat-trick. Well Rafa, being a tactical genius, is not that kind of a man at all. He probably had decided then that he'd not be playing him in the Newcastle game.
My justification:
Kinnear is short on defenders. He might resort to man marking. We usually play 4-2-3-1 in away games. If Keane were to play that game up front, Kinnear would probably have Butt tag him. But as Rafa played Kuyt up front who is not easy to tag( ask Clichy if you want proof), Butt became redundant.
Tactical genius ain't he?
@goldenliverbird - I hope Lucas continues to improve (after all the flak he got for the last few months), as he has been pretty good the last couple of games.
@abhiram - interestign insight there, i'd never even considered it like that, it's certainly food for thought.
