Thankful to be in the title race

The fact that we're after drawing 3 home league games in a row, hurts, it hurts alot. We're in a nice position, top of the league, and bemoaning the fact that we should be at least several points clear of our rivals.

That we're still at the top of the league is a minor miracle based on Chelsea not capitalising on our slip ups. Manchester United on the other hand have been closing the gap a little too quickly for my liking. Fortunately for us, they've got the distraction of the World Club Cup to contend with right now.

Whoever ends up winning the league this season, will likely do so with the lowest points tally in years. The problem for us though is that if we can't start performing & winning games, how much longer can we rely on our rivals dropping points to compensate for our inadequacies ?

Yes you are 100% correct, we cannot afford to drop anymore 'silly' points especially at home against the 'lesser' teams. People have commented that we are still one point ahead blah blah, these are the opportunity for us to build up a points lead against our rivals because realistically we will probably lose 1 or 2 more games before the season is over.

Your point about Manure is spot-on, it would be nothing worse than seeing them pip us to the title and us going 'we shouldn't have dropped points in that game and the other game etc'. My main worry will be against the Gooners at the Emirates where are record is not the best to say the least, but then again we have to win there in the league at some stage and this Saturday would be ideal.

On the Robbie Keane issue something doesn't feel quite right with Robbie and Rafe, it feels like there has been a 'falling out' of some sorts, to be honest the sooner El Nino is back for us the better, with him hopefully back and recovered from his hamstring he might make a huge difference in the second half of the season. Anyway here is the a win on Sunday.

Its really infuriating watching Liverpool play lately. I am thankful we still have a chance of winning the league but its a very slim chance. I was surprised Chelsea didnt win yesterday but its only a matter of time before Chelsea, ManUtd, Arsenal start passing us out in the league. We need Torres back asap.

The real problem is Benitez with his crazy choice of substitutions. Hmmm - we need to win a game - how about sending Lucas on instead of Keane - real smart - NOT

Look we are still top of the league and should be grateful for that. Our home form is truly depressing when we should be really winning those games. What really pisses me off is how bizarre Rafa can be at times. Not sure what good he thought leaving Keane on the bench would be for his confidence or for our chances of beating Hull. A refreshing thought is that Liverpool has had a tendancy under Rafa to finish the second half of the season much better than the first half.

@keith - normally I'd agree with your assessment of our prospects against Arsenal. But so far this season we seem hell bent on changing the rules of the game (beating Chelsea at Stamford, beating Manchester United anywhere), if anything now seems the perfect time to face Arsenal (hope I'm not being hopelessly optimistic here now)

@roger - on present evidence it's only a matter time, unless of course we can get our act together

@jessica - that's pretty true about our form after xmas, if we can recreate that again next year, we should be sorted

United could be a problem when they come back from Japan. They will have a few games in hand and can quietly play in the backgroud without any pressure from the media. Once they get into the mode of winning they will be hard to stop or notice until its too late.

Gerrard takes a knock to the ankle and is sidelined for what 3 mins , in this time we manage to conceed a goal ,then carragher hits form by knocking another one in for the opposition .Ok so it takes gerrard to set up two goals and score both to bring us level at HT .Now can anyone tell me why kuyt cannot score infront of an open goal .This is Robbie territory .
Waiting in anticipation for him to come on around 60 mins ,no leave 20 million on the bench and bring on lucas ,zhar, babel .Im in tears at this stage.Does rafa have what it takes to win the league ?We need to finish Arsenal off 3- 0 and show we are title contenders !!!

There's every reason to remain positive despite our crap home form (which MUST improve). The possibility of winning the league is still completely in our own hands. Sure we could be several points ahead of the others but we could also be several points behind them which is what we've become accustomed to for decades now. Under Rafa, we've always been better after christmas. Never mind the fact that we've got a certain Fernando Torres coming back in the new year.....

fire rafa !! he keeps making crazy stupid decisions and is too stubborn to admit when wrong

The dropped points will cost us , no doubt about it. The pressure that would be on chasing pack if we had points against spurs, Fulham, stoke, west ham and Hull. 11 Points dropped are points lost and at home we should be beating these teams.

Watching the game (on TV), the longer it went on the less likely I thought Rafa would bring Robbie on. He would have thought we had most of the possesion, liked the shape, bring Babble on to run at tiring defence, Yossi was playing poor but he wanted to keep SG where he was. And he wanted a target man so Kyte stayed up front. He now knows (took him spending 20M+) that Robbie does not lead the line and needs a target man to play with. So not willing to move Gerrard meant RK stayed on the bench. The other option of replacing Masc with Gerrard and bringing on RK obviously Rafa though had less chance of yielding the goal. Possible he was right as neither Kuyt or Robbie are prolific when chance appears and gerrad is but Kuyt has more possibilities of sneaking a goal even from header. Robbie is no King Kenny as many LFC fans suggested, he is a good player in a system to suit him and will misss as many as he scores. The fact rafa paid 20M is not Robbies fault. I am from ROI so have watcehed enough of Robbie to know. His is totally frustrated, when he played against PSV, babbale had several opportunities to lay pass on but choose to go it alone. Robbie need someone to inter play one-twos and possible win the first ball. Kytes touch is not good enough for Robbie to partner him.

The real culprit on Saturday was Dossena, beaten for both goals, fist the header, then he was taken apart and allowed the cross.

Play the young full backs and it will improve the team. Find a right winger of quality in January and it will improve the team. Pennant and Yossi out in January along with Dossena and Degan.

Dossena will cost us big time yet, much moer the the 7/8 m. Do we have to buy players to tell they are totally useless, blind person could tell in ficve mins that he is not PL standard.

Things are hitting fever pitch now... Please keep perspective .. although Rafa can be infuriating... hes trying to keep the squad hungry for the 2nd half of the season, If we can get a good xmas spell then this is our best chance in years.

Keep the faith

bring the 12th man out

With United creeping up, and Chelsea right at our necks ,its hard to keep positive. But thats all can do.

The last few games have been frustrating, but its been Liverpools best start in 12 years, and that has to count for something. Our title dreams are definately not too far fetched... we're in a better position this year that the last few years.

@michelle - if anything, it makes for a more exciting (nerve wracking) title run in ;-)
