We're at it again with the signing of yet another highly rated youngster who was also chased by Barcelona. This time it's for a 17 year old Danish striker/attacking midfielder who has some sweet skills. Not sure if anyone reading speaks Danish and might provide some further insight into this article (LINK). Anyway here's a wee video showcasing some of his skills :-

Did I forget all about Riise, ooh ah ?
I got an email tonight from someone who had checked out both the 'Transfer Zone' and 'search box' on My Anfield but couldn't find any reference to Riise signing for Roma. At first I thought they were mistaken but lo and behold the post still shows in draft status (should've clicked publish post). My bad.
Well I'd like to offer my apologises to Riise, even though I doubt he'll ever read this. He has been a fantastic servant for us over the years, scoring some phenomenal goals. I prefer to remember the good times he gave us, they outnumber the bad and I wish him best of luck with Roma. Anyways here's a YouTube video of THAT goal which made him a legend of sorts for LFC.

More PR stunts for LFC fans
Gillet and Hicks have announced that contractors will commence enabling work on the new stadium site very soon (LINK). There's absolutely no mention whatsoever of them securing funding for the new stadium.
So this 'enabling work' is certainly open to interpretation (digging a couple of holes). Given their track record with the promises they make us, I can't help but lean towards a pessimistic (pragmatic) view of this latest announcment.
Long gone is the sheer excitement I once felt at the prospect of this cool new stadium being built, but I'd love for it to return. One thing which perplexes me is what effect this will have on any potential DIC buy outs !?!

Liverpool Away Kit for 2008 / 2009
I'm really not sure what to make of this new grey shirt.I kinda like the way we normally alternate between white and yellow away jerseys.
Still LFC has confirmed what it now looks like and it'll be launched on July 17th.
Rumour has it we can also expect to see another away shirt for europe launched next month (teal blue apparently).

Tough times in the transfer market
A precedent was set when we signed Torres and Mascherano for huge amounts of money (worth every penny), but both are very young world class players and represent solid investments for the future.
Gareth Barry who is much older, seemed like reasonable value at £10m but Aston Villa rejected a bid of £15m, insisting they want more, which wouldn't represent as good an investment. We currently lack the resources of Chelsea & Manchester United who can afford to pay over the odds for a player, so why should we encourage that behavour with ourselves ?
I like that Liverpool has started spending that bit more money on players, but I'd prefer that was reserved for younger players and unearthing more gems like Agger & Skrtel, so we can recoup the investments further down the line.

Fernando Torres wedding day opening song ?
With my fiance being a Manchester United fan (I know, I know) she doesn't seem thrilled with the idea of the opening song being anything about Torres (actually she doesn't want it to have anything to do with football). Which is fair enough, I just figured, "we're gonna bounce in a minute" would make for something more 'unique' [read: I can't dance].
Thing is we're trying to decide on a song and have several candidates. But she wants me to decide [agree] asap. For some reason the Torres song has been in my head this year. So what do you lot think, any suggestions ?

The curse of internationals strikes again
I've come to dislike international games if only because I don't like seeing our own players getting injured. This summer is unusual in that we've got players at both Euro 2008 and also the Olympics.
When I heard that Babel would be out for several weeks due to a torn ankle ligament I figured we'd have him back for pre-season. Unfortunately the Dutch have now decided they'd like to take him to the Olympics, which means we might not get to see him until September. This looks like being a long summer and I wonder how many more players we'll end up losing.

Markus Johansson must be hard as nails
This Swedish kid sounds like a very exciting prospect, he's a goal scoring machine who is exceptionally strong with explosive speed, but best of all is that he's a big Liverpool fan (Torres is his idol).
At only 14 years old he has already broken into the first team of Hagahojden (4th division team), scoring 8 goals in league, friendly and cup games. The season before he bagged 180 goals for their youth team.
He'll be having a trial with us in August and I've a sneaking suspicion that'll he soon be joining the ranks of exceptionally talented youngsters we've got, maybe we'll get lucky and have ourselves a ready made Torres replacement ;-)
