Aurelio is back in the nick of time

Over the last several games, Insua has had the chance to showcase his exciting potential (link), to the extent that he looked like cementing his place in the first team. Unfortunately though, Insua has decided to attend the Under-20 South American Championships with Argentina, which lasts for a month.

Fortunately for us, Aurelio made his return from injury, coming on as a sub against Preston last Saturday. Given that we've got Everton and Chelsea coming up in the next month [link], he should have enough time to work on his fitness and provide us with the quality we need at left back.

Man that's really crap, I was so looking forward to seeing Insua playing against Everton and Chelsea, just to see how he can handle those kind of games. Still it's just as well Aurelio is back because Dossena would have been a terrible liability in those big games.

I can understand someone wanting to represent their country but this is only a youth tournament so I am very disappointed that Insua will leave at such an important point in the season.

I hope Rafa does not hold it aginst him as he was developing very well and looked like even making the left back position his own for the future. But he might come back and find himself further down the pecking order.

Well I guess we can now forget about Dossena being sold this month :-(

It was probably decided that he would go long before he got the recent chances in the first team.

The South American U-20 championship ?!! Is someone bull******** us ?!! Surely we can't be under a duty to give up a player for a full month mid-season for such a nothing competition as this. I've sung Insua's praises for the last few weeks but anyone who leaves us in the lurch for a whole month mid-season for a tournament like this should go straight to the back of the queue upon his return. Regional kiddie's tournaments cannot be allowed to take precedence for a full month mid-season over the club who pays the player's wages. This is ridiculous and we should be sticking up for ourselves instead of letting it happen.

Hey guys - it's just the price we pay for having such a young precocious talent. The majority of U-20 players are usually building their experience in reserves or youth squads. Once selected, he (and the club) has no choice but to play - unless injured and then he couldn't play for us, could he now?

Dossena was never going to be sold in the January window - and certainly won't now! Now he may get a chance for redemption...

Personally I'm just glad that Fabio is back (hopefully he'll last the next 3 weeks while Insua is away).

Good luck Insua (and Huth). Have a great tournament and return uninjured and keen to help us chase the treble!!!!

It really is bad timing coz the guy was building up a lot of momentum and fitted into the side well. I am wondering if he had any choice in the matter, and if he actually wanted to go and play for his country. I may get abused on here but in my opinion international games are meaningless. I come from Australia and don't give a crap about my national team or England or Ireland or any country to be honest. I also have never met anyone who supports their country more then their club. The clubs pay the wages as well so i think it is just ridiculous. Jamie Carragher has the same thoughts as i do. Club football is far more important, especially when you play for Liverpool.

@dummy - it would've been great to see him up against Everton & Chelsea, guess we'll have to wait until next season ;-)

@zoran - i'd imagine Rafa is more pragmatic than that, Aurelio coming back will have softened the blow for him.

@j - very true.

@koparoma - I doubt he'll be given much chance of a redemption for such important games now that Aurelio is back.

@scott d - i'd definitely have to agree with you there, although if Ireland EVER end up in the final of the world cup, i'll take that back ;-)

I think he should be given a chance, it is not fair according to me. But even if he is not given a chance i will watch it... hehehe

If only Insua wasnt off at those stupid youth cups we could be selling Dossena already. Aurelio is starting to look sharp again but Insua is our future.
