What's with LFC ? Why won't they commit Agger to a new contract already ? Is he not a truly world class defender ? Are we inundated with too many world class defenders, that letting one leave is no big deal ?
The rumours that he might leave, surfaced a few months ago with Real Madrid expressing their desire to sign him, but both Agger & Rafa refuted that possibility. Negotiations were rumoured to have commenced on a new contract and it's rather doubtful that Agger was asking for too much money, yet nothing seemed to come of those negotiations.
The latest suitor is AC Milan, the problem being that Aggers agent met with their sporting director yesterday, to discuss whatever it is that agents and sporting directors do ! Agger has only 18 months left on his contract (which he could easily buy out). We need to be retaining our best players, not losing them.

If Daniel Agger were to leave LFC anytime soon, it would prove to be one of the biggest mistakes management has ever made. Events of the last couple of years have proven that we really need at least 3 world class defenders throughout the season to cover inevitable injuries. Carragher is the wrong side of 30 and Hyypia is very close to retirement. Agger & Skrtel are definitely the best defenders we've had since the 80s and represent the future of our central defence. C'mon Hicks & Gillet, take the finger out and make sure OUR club gets to retain the services of one of the greatest players to have ever played for LFC.
Rumor has it that he is only looking for 60k or 70k a week which is nothing for a player of his class. I would be gutted if he left us. Plus we cant easily replace him when we would only get about 8m for him.
yeah i agree with dummy. the fact that real madrid and ac milan are after him (the biggest clubs in spain and italy) speaks volumes for how good agger is. Him and Skrtel are awesome centre backs for the future. i dont rate carragher as as centre back, i think he is best on the right and sami hyppia will be collecting the pension soon. I was stunned that rafa didnt even pick agger on the bench at stoke, it was one of about 5 blunders that Rafa made on the weekend (not including crapping on about ferguson). We really need to sign up him as soon as possible and give the lad some regular games. why can't rafa name a back 4 of Carragher, Agger, Skrtel and Insua (when back from national duty). Lets hope sanity prevails and he stays.
Scott the reason Agger wasnt even on the bench last weekend was because he had a calf strain. So no need to read anything into that. Surely LFC wont be stupid enough to consider letting him leave.
Its hopefully just the agent posturing to get the club to hurry up on a contract.
@dummy - i'd be shocked and very disappointed if Agger was let go...
@scott d - like you say, "lets hope sanity prevails and he stays"
@ciaran - i think that was a minor calf strain ;-)
@roberto - that would be the ideal scenario, I guess time will tell
Sorry lads but the words "world class" are branded about in football far too much and i don't believe we have any world class defenders, yet anyhow. Carra is all heart and bravery but not world class, our full backs a joke (although Insua has great potential, great to see him getting a chance), agger and skrtel do have the potential to become a super partnership for years to come though, so hopefully D'Agger will stay.
Decky you have got it wrong about Agger + Skrtel. Both of them are already world class defenders.
I am not sure how trustworthy these agents are, but according to danish newspapers, Per Steffensen (Aggers's agent) claims to be visiting a friend in the italian market.
On the other hand, Tipsbladet states Agger is signing a four-year contract today..
It would absolutely be a shame to lose him.
@decky - I'd have to agree with Jessica on this, as I believe both Agger & Skrtel to be world class defenders - seriously. It's not a tag I like to use lightly.
@trond - damn, that's not very encouraging news :-(
I really don't want him to leave.
Don't have any argument about Agger being very good and someone Liverpool should be trying to keep. However, how is it that the agent of a player with a contract of some 18 months still to go decides to approach other clubs? If it were someone less popular, fans would be criticising him for angling for a move.
@paul grech - a very valid & probably true point ;-)
OMG this is shocking , he should not be let go, i would be disappointed too...
Latest news from Denmark:
http://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/italiensk/agent-afviser-agger-skifte
It's not gonna happen.
Agger is staying, it seems.
I am a serious agent, and won't negotiate in the current situation, Per Steffensen says.
@trond - cheers, that's something of a relief.... for now... still want him to hurry up and sign with us again
ManC could do with a few decent defenders and £50 million for Agger sounds about right ;-)
J.
The real problem here is the American owners. Agger is only asking for what most people would consider a fair wage under current market conditions to sign a new contract but the owners are not willing to pay this. Hicks is great at trying to give the false impression that he's a good and reasonable guy but he's just as much responsible for the club's shitty financial position as Gillett.
Agger and Skrtel are the future. Carra is starting to show his age.
I would sell Dross-ena and use the money to buy Kris Eagles from Burnley. I know he's ex-Scum and Slur Alex rarely makes a mistake when letting players go, but Eagles was playing second fiddle to Ronaldo (and let's face it who isn't?!) and just wanted first team footie. He'd be excellent on our right wing (Sorry Dirk).
@j - nah, i'd much rather we kept him ;-)
@axel - rumour has it he was actually a Spurs fan as a kid, so a wee stint at ManUre youth could be forgiven ;-)
If Kaka is going to Man City for £100m, then i'd happily take £40m of that off Milans hands for Danny Agger!!
Seriously though, in Reina, Agger and Skrtel we have the spine of our defense sorted for a long time to come. It would be criminal to not tie him up on a long term contract.
@david wiseman - I couldn't agree more... with the 2nd paragraph ;-)
