A lot of attention has been given to Rafa rejecting LFCs contract offer. The stumbling block in the negotiations is that Rafa feels he should have more say regarding player transfers and the development of the youth academy.
While he acknowledges that he should have to work responsibly within the financial constraints set by LFC's board, he rightly feels that his football related decisions shouldn't be subject to the whims of a CEO.
Rafa insists he has a good working relationship with our American custodians, and it certainly helps that Hicks has publicly stated he's fully aware of Rafa's concerns and sensibly he feels that they can be worked through. So I guess there's no need for any alarm bells to start ringing over this non-issue.

As much as i have criticised Rafa on this site I feel it would be a tradegy if the club let him leave. He does make some strange decisions at times and frustrates me a lot but he has given the club stability and he has also formed a squad better then any of the last 10 years or so. I blame the yanks for this ongoing saga - just give Rafa what he wants and get on with it. Its Hicks and Gillet that should be out the door, not Rafa. Having said that, i just hope against Everton next week we do not see Torres and Keane on the bench with Kuyt the lone striker. If that happens i may change my mind.
It's only fair that he would want to have control over who he can sign. Any half decent manager would want the same. We need to have an end to the farce that transfer windows have become with Rick Parry (aka the Clown) in the driving seat. If the manager believes a certain player is what he needs to complete his squad, he should be the one to determine how much he thinks that player is worth. Rafa is pragmatic enough to take into consideration budgetry restrictions. If anyhing the Yanks should be looking at getting rid of Rick Parry who is nothing short of a fucking sycophantic waster.
I think I am actually starting to like Mr Hicks. LFC TV had a cool interview with him, he seems totally behind Benitez.
Shit I forgot to include the link to the article :-

Hey Robbie - I think you will find that there is a bit of a power struggle at Liverpool FC. Hicks has long backed Benitez and Gillett has long backed Parry. I cant see me ever liking the yanks/muppets, but above all else they better agree on keeping Benitez. It would set the club back many years if we had to start again with another manager and we would probably end up losing Torres in the process.
@scott d - looks like ManUre are top of the league now :-( definitely hope we see Torres and Keane do their thing against Everton, badly need the points
@robbie & michael feist - the power struggles were quite tiresome and i hope they'll be a thing of the past, really want Rafa to stay
If Benitez continues with his stubborn and stupid substitutions (like he did last night) then it would be better if he didn't get too much control over LFC.
there's no way he should be allowed total control. I like him....but not that much. He also should be fined a weeks wages and banned from speaking to the press for discussing this into the media limelight...
