The one thing I hate about the likes of the FA Cup (I now rate it about as highly as the Carling Cup) is the risk it poses to our senior players. In the 3rd round it was Alonso we lost to injury. Sure enough the 4th round replay with Everton had it's own victim (plus we lost 1-0).
Gerrard is the latest star player to be injured in a 'seemingly meaningless' game. The poor lad only lasted a quarter of an hour before being subbed after straining his hamstring. Hopefully it doesn't turn out too serious and we'll have him back in time for the upcoming clash with Real Madrid [link].

ya it was really painful to watch this match! There wasn't any real passion from Liverpool to win this as if they weren't motivated at all.I think we'll cruely lack strikers now.Even play makers without Gerrard we'll suffer Torres doesn't seem to have completely recovered too!!Let's see .
There is no doubt we just do not have the depth to compete in 4 competitions. I don't really care at all about the F.A. Cup or Carling Cup, but i have to say I enoyed the 2006 win over West Ham. Man Utd kill us in depth and i would not be suprised (but i would be horrified)if they win 5 trophies this year including the World Club Competition. I think its great that we lost, and can now concentrate fully on the Premier league and Champions league. I really hope the Gerrard injury is not serious as we really can afford to have him out for any of the remaining games. I didnt get to watch the game but i had a laugh when i read that Lucas was sent off. The only thing that Lucas is good at is giving away fouls. I hope we do not see too much of him again this season, but i know we will.
you had your chance at anfield now youve been dumped out its a crap cup??? the fat spanish waiter messed up when he let keane go without replacing him, so get over it cus you would have loved to beat everton tonight so dont lie
villa would have knocked you out next round anyway,,its funny when its the best cup around when you win it
It's a crap cup of course but the English are making a fuss about an already dying cup. The reward for this cup is a place in EUFA Cup which is 2nd rate at best and perhaps some 1-2 million in extra bucks. Probably the English has more passion I don't know. I think the league and Champions League are more important as money is more and the prestige is higher. Also meeting Aston Villa in the next round is another factor. I'd rather have the teams rest for the week to prepare for the next league or CL game.
one man team without steveg you are nothing bubble just went pop
your still gonna win f.a.
"villa would have knocked you out next round anyway,,its funny when its the best cup around when you win it"
dont get too excited yet mate - villa have done nothing for years and the season is a long way from finishing - arsenal will get fourth place just wait
Hi Paul as a South African I love all English Football and had to stay up until 1AM this morning to watch the game.... but I can understand what you are saying. The trouble is Rafa clearly didn't see it as an irrelevant game, he fielded a strong side, many of whom played poorly (particularly Lucas who has become a serious liability)and once again the attacking players showed their inability to score goals, I am still waiting for Rafa to produce "all these players who could fill the gap left by Keane" who, if you remember, was kicked out because of "his inability to score goals". Based on last nights performance I do not understand why he doesn't give some of the youngsters a chance ... but then again most of the decisions made by the "Brain" make little or no sense to me.
@scott d - 2006 was fun, but after Istanbul, it felt like a trinket being lifted at the end of the match. At least we're free to focus on the Premier & Champions Leagues now.
@bruce sa red - fair dues to you man, that's true commitment, for that game I can honestly say I wouldn't have stayed up until 1am mid-week to watch it. Only the Premier & Champions Leagues would elicit that kind of 'commitment' from me ;-)
