This is a painful realisation but after yesterdays draw with Manchester City, it has become apparent that we probably don't have what it takes to win the Premier League this season. Sure it's still mathematically possible but it's also psychologically improbable that the lads will turn it on enough.
We've only got 12 games left and we're relying on Manchester United to drop at least 8 points more than us over the last 12 games. Things can change quickly in football, and maybe in a few weeks time (after beating ManUre at their home) we might have cause for optimism again.

I'm still in the pits of depression after yet another shite draw. I really thought we would come back stronger after the international break but that was a very disappointing and lack lustre display from the Reds.
The match with Man Utd is the real key. Imagine what happens if we win the next 2 matches and Utd draw one of theirs. A win for us at Old Trafford would then have us just 2 points behind them with 9 games left in the season. I will wait until after the Utd match before writing off our hopes. Its still possible and I am a little worried but i still want to believe.
Well said Zoran.We need to win the next 2 games before going to OT. I think,Newcastle can pull off at least a draw with manure. If that happens, Liverpool can then go all out for the win at OT. Imagine with 2 points diff, and nine games to go. That looks a better proposition !!!
I think we have to wave a white
flag. The problem lies in the fact
that Rafa is stupid in selecting
players. I don't understand why
he plays Lucas. He is slow like a coward buffalo and passed the ball very casually. If Rafa doesnot accept this fact, I think he will never win the title. Rafa wants to beat United at Old Trafford. For what? The hope for the title has faded away already. If United lets you win, it doesnot mean that you are going to win the title after all.
@dummy - i had to fight a considerable amount of jet lag to stay awake for the match, wish i went to sleep instead...
@zoran - that's very true and I've no intention of writing the lads off just yet...
its gone we will be lucky to stay second.get rid of benitez now and start building for next year.he has done all he can with liverpool.go and get the special one.
Come on guys you just have to face the fact that we are just not good enough unfortunately. We just can't seem to ever score a goal in the first half of games, and often find ourselves behind in games and then leave it late to try to snatch a win or even a draw. You can not win a title doing this in 80% of matches. I find it laughable that some one on here is counting on Newcastle to hold Manure to a draw after we thumped them 5-0 after Christmas. Our team relies too heavily on Gerrard, Torres and Alonso and without one or two of them we are fairly average in my opinion. Manure can easily replace injured players with quality where as we simply can't. Can you seriously compare Lucas to Alonso, or Ngog to Torres. I DON'T THINK SO !!!!
@scott d - still it's nice to have a dream ;-)
While the odds are heavily stacked against us, that just makes it a little more exciting and fulfilling if we do somehow manage to win the Premier League in a few months :-)
3rd to 2nd though this season. We are improving. We have no chance of winning the league realistically, but I will still dream.
its nice to see Man U have trouble with inter today i still have hope for this season
@azza - that's the spirit :-)
@jack kelsh - i'd shed a tear for them only i doubt i would mean it ;-)
If it wasn't then it is now. What a crap result gainst Boro of all teams.
