Youth players preferred to Voronin return

Well if Rafa thinks Keane wasn't good enough for Liverpool to the extent that he was willing to ship him out so soon, then I think Voronin's offer to shore up our striking department is likely to fall on deaf ears. In fact, I think he would have already been recalled from his loan with Hertha Berlin, if Rafa felt he was good enough (but let's face it, he didn't exactly settle very well).

While I'm no fan of Rafa's decision to ship Keane out so soon, I do look on this as a golden opportunity for some of the youth players, as opposed to a jaded senior player. Ngog has already had some playing time, but it's Nemeth who I really hope is given a chance in the first team, as he comes across as having far more potential than Ngog.

Voronin was a complete waste of space and I was glad to see the back of him when he left on loan. The thought of him coming back makes me cringe but he might be better than Ngog who doesnt look that great. Nemeth definitely looks like a decent prospect and it would be great to see him given a chance.

I was always love seeing the youngsters making a break through and I agree that Nemeth is a more exciting player than Ngog but Rafa obviously disagrees as he has so far chosen to give Ngog chances instead of Nemeth.

I think Nemeth was injured in Aug or Sep on international duty and has only been fit recently, he's at Blackpool for a month now. I seem to recall him playing in one of the last preseason friendlies, he seems a very smart player but may still lack a bit of physicality for the first team.

Nemeth is injured. He picked it up on his first outing in his loan spell, so perhaps Rafa doesn't think playing an injured Nemeth is better than a healthy Ngog........go figure!

Ngog is a better player than Nemeth at the moment. You can easily tell when you compare their reserve team performances. Ngog looks like playing in the reserves is too easy, whereas Nemeth still has bits and pieces of his game that he needs to improve.

Funny how things change - back when Voronin first joined Liverpool he excelled in the pre-season while Torres was decidedly low-key ... as for the youngsters, last week's Observer Sport Monthly featured an item on Liverpool's Youth Cup winning team the season before Michael Owen broke through - he was 16 then and already heralded as the best youth player in the country ... where's the next?

Daniel Pacheco probably. The standard is much higher these days though. Tom Ince and Andrea Wisdom also look like they can be top quality in a couple of years time.

Voronin was yet another stiker that Rafa bought who did not make it. There is no way he would have got a game at Arsenal, Chelsea or Manure so why did Rafa buy him in the first place. He also bought Morientes (really crap player for us), an ageing Robbie Fowler, Peter Crouch, Craig Bellamy and recently Keane (who he didnt give a decent chance). It has only been Torres that has set the world on fire. The point I am trying to make is that it is time to give a youngster a try and Nemeth is surely the best option. Ngog looks way out of depth, and Babel has been terrible this season. Failing that I can not see why we would not buy Owen back in the summer, as he would be a good back up for Torres. Torres aside, our attacking options look paper thin in my opinion.

Ngog, Pacheco, Nemeth, Dalla Valle.... any body... I'll support these youngsters to the end... No Voronin please....

Voronin!!! Perish the thought....my blood runs cold, totally out of his depth at Liverpool. Babel & Ngog have little to offer at this stage so I agree lets try some of the other youngsters, they may even bring something else that has been in short supply this season.......passion for the game.

@roger - i remember once thinking Voronin had potential (in pre-season), funny how things change ! Think we'll have to wait another few weeks before Nemeth comes back from injury.

@jessica - good point, he had a couple of injuries but otherwise had been available for much of the season.

@scott d - we got Voronin and Fowler on free transfers and Bellamy (not so free but we profited from him) and the understanding was pretty much that they were always going to be just squad players. So I think I'll cut them a little slack. Shame about Morientes & Keane who were both supposed to be first teamers. I wonder if Rafa would really consider bringing Owen back to the club though...

@abhiram - Pacheco & Dalla Valle both look the real deal and I'd be completely and utterly shocked if both didn't end up making it over the next few seasons.

@bruce SA red - ah, passion, the good old days of football ;-)

I was in Germany at the weekend, and watched the Hertha game in a bar. As I was watching one player stood out and was completely slicing open the opponents defence, scoring one and hitting the bar on a well placed effort. I then got a clear enough view to see the name on that back and I almost fell over when I read Voronin on the back of his shirt. He truely is playing phenominal and I would like to see him back in the team if he can recreate the form he's found for Hertha.

Voronin should be back at LFC, the difference between him and Keane is very much clear. Keano couldnt fit in because he is used of being the captain and leader at Spurs. At LFC he is a striker and cant take Stevie's place as our captian. I love Keano alot but the fact that he couldnt stay due to lack of patience between him and Rafa. Voronin can be more effective than Keane in the striker force of LFC. Look at him play for Hertha and you will know.
I fully support the use of our youngsters but for the first half of the game, this will be effeicient to tire our opponents. Then we bring in the big guns to finish the game off. Believe it or not I was happy with Rafa's plan at Portsmouth. He damaged all their plans as they were expecting the traditional formation. Risky chance but it paid off in the end. Kenny approved it so will I.
Cheers, please support Liverpool by being positive, we have to win the league this year more than anything else..

@azza - the thing with Voronin is that he can look good in patches (including for us in several games) but for the most part doesn't look all that bothered which is a shame cos he could be a very good player if he were motivated enough !!

@tawfiq - i'll always support Liverpool, no matter what, and prefer to focus on the positive side of things, although at times some of the things going on at our club can make that difficult

@Paul, i agree on the club point!
If any body out there knows the persons who are scouting possible players for LFC, can somebody please give them these two names:
Guilherme Milhomem Gusmão in Cruzeiro Brazil club & Alberto Aquilani in Roma Italy. If we are to bring young players with qualtiy that fits Liverpool's style then I recomend a serious look at these two names. Young and great potential. Ofcourse I wish our Melwood grads have an excellent chance of proving their skills.
WHEN WILL SEE A SHANKLY SIMILAR ERA?
Cheers
