Looks like we won't be having a repeat of last summers transfer fiasco, thanks to Rafa saying that there's no way he'll consider letting Alonso leave. After going through an extended run of poor form, Alonso has really turned it around with his undoubted quality shining through this season, to the extent that we wouldn't be in the title race without him.
Sadly though, there continues to be persistent rumours concerning a potential exit of Agger. Last October Rafa was happy to say he wanted to keep the lad, but since then there has been absolutely no progress made on a contract extension. Rumours abound of some sort of falling out, time will tell if we end up losing the genuine world class talent of Agger.

Skirtel has been a bit off form recently (tired?) and I rate Agger much higher than him when fully fit. Agger is also better at bringing the ball out and has a better range of passing and can score goals. I don't know what the problem with the contract is but I would sign him up quickly before he leaves on the cheap/free.

Benitez doesn't want him anymore. It's real text book Benitez style to freeze a player out and pay lip service to wanting him to stay but not actually backing it up with anything tangible. Agger is the best defender LFC has had in a very long time and we're going to lose him.
he just has to stay... will one day be the best defender in the world, and is a much better defender , player and has much more class than clumsy skrtel
@Simon - I'm beginning to think there's a very real risk we're gonna lose him, which is gonna be real bad for our club.
@J & @red 4 life - I agree that Agger is a better player but I think they're both amazing players and I'd love nothing more than to see both of them playing together in the future.
Surely Agger and Skrtel together as centre backs is the future for Liverpool. I tend to prefer Agger as a player, but agree they are both different and very good in their own way. Skrtel is tough as nails, and fights hard and is big and strong. He does give away a lot of free kicks, and i feel he will get his share of red cards of his career.
Agger is solid and very exciting to watch. His goal last week, and against Wigan earlier in the season are classic examples of how good he really is.
Something must be going on behind the scenes, I just hope it gets resolved soon and we sign him. He is far too good to let go, just as good as Alonso in my opinion.
in my opinion i think rafa is sending out the wrong message to agger by hardly playing him... agger will be, if not already, a world class talent and the thought of him and skrtel together is an awesome partnership. I wouldnt complain the least bit if carragher already starts getting replaced wif agger... give skrtel and agger one year to gel and they will shine
@Scott D - I remember at the start of the season thinking this was gonna be the season that we get to see the dream partnership of Agger & Skrtel formed. Whatever is going on in Rafas head, I hope gets resolved soon.
@Suley - maybe Rafa is sending out what he perceives as being the right message, in that he's decided Agger no longer fits in with his plans, and he's just letting everyone else know he's available :-(
