Agger & Torres score stunners against Rovers

Even if Blackburn Rovers didn't present us with much of a challenge, winning 4-0 was the perfect response after losing to Chelsea. The match almost looked like a training session but it was blessed with 2 stunning goals.

Torres opened the scoring with a breathtaking goal which must surely be a strong candidate for goal of the season. No words can really do justice to it, which is why I'll include this youtube link to the goal instead.

It was great to see Agger back for Liverpool and he topped it off with a stereotypical (for him) stunner from outside the box, and sure enough here's a youtube link for that also. Not too sure about his fitness though as he appeared to get a bit of a cramp towards the end.

We're still in the title race with a very hefty goal difference compared to ManUre who have maintained their points advantage over us.

If we end up winning all our games and get 88 points and the scum win the league ya have to take your hat off to them, personally i hope it goes down to goal difference

"Oh holy fuck", are the words I used to describe Torres goal when I first saw it. He really should have scored a hat trick but I'll forgive him ;-)

Mascherano was my MOTM as he dominated the entire game, if he had been playing against Chelsea there's no way we would have lost like we did.

It was a competent performance but Blackburn were shite. After that god awful performance mid week, we should take some confidence from this result and avoid a run of poor form.

@dummy - well that certainly seems an appropriate way to express how you felt when he scored ;-)

@simon - yeah, it was a very easy going game, wish we had scored a few more, but am happy with the result.

I think if we didnt have chelsea game so close the score would have been higher.. Its very obvious that the CL game is consuming LFC's thoughts.. I think its a positive thing, they should attack Chelsea with everything they got..

I just hope they learn from what Bolton did in the final 20 minutes to Chelsea..

Manure displayed a weak defence and lack of coordiation against Sunderland..

LFC should concentrate and keep the momentum..

Cheers guys and YNWA!

@Tawfiq The Red - well if Chelsea are overly confident of beating us and we do give it all we've got, it's not inconceivable that we could beat them on Tuesday by a few goals.

This was one of those games where you can sit back and relax and watch us dominate. It should have been about 8-0 in the end, but before the game we would have taken 4-0. Blackburn were really shit and it was good to wipe the smile of fat Sam's face. I really cant stand him.

Considering Gerrard was injured, I thought Rafa picked an excellent side. Insua, Agger and Benayoun should start more often in my opinion. I thought Riera, Alonso and Mascherano were excellent and never stopped running all day.

Both Torres and Kuyt missed some easy goals, but the two that Torres scored were magic. The first goal was the best strike I have seen this season and gave the goal keeper absolutely no chance. Aggers goal was almost as good and I think he is a really good player.

I hope we attack Chelsea early on try to put some scoreboard pressure on them. We are certainly capable of hitting 4 goals at the Bridge, but if Chelsea dominate again, then I hope Rafa subsitutes the star players and brings on the youngsters.

I knew Blackburn would come to Anfield looking to defend but this was a joke, even after we scored a couple of times they didnt bother trying to attack. It was our easyst game of the season.

Man Utd can and will slip up. I can see this going to the very last game of the season and I bet we win on goal difference.

@scott d - "sit back and relax and watch us dominate" - that very accurately describes exactly what I did for the whole match ;-)

@marcus - if it does come down to the last game, I really hope I'll be able to get some tickets for the match, I'd be gutted to miss it.

i still think we have a chance against chelski, bolton magnified their weakness, they were lucky that bolton were only able to put 3 past them wth 20 mins remaining.

Alonso n Masch were magnificent in midfield ytday!! Insua was impressive too, not forgetting Torres & Agger.

That was a good professional performance from us. Agger I thought looked a bit shaky at the back, but then coming after so long a gap would have anyone looking for their bearings. Hopefully his contract will be sorted out and that he'll stay with us for another couple of years at least. But things look very hazy at the moment. Will he stay beyond summer?? Difficult to say at the moment.

Hoping for the best....

@Val - yeah, i thought Insua, Alonso & Mascherano all had great games, but because Rovers were soooo bad I wasn't as impressed as I would've been had Rovers put some more effort in. But they will be very important players for us against Chelsea & Arsenal.

@HarryFloyd - I'll be gutted if they let Agger leave, it seems almost inconceivable to let someone so good leave.

The whole pub was gobsmacked when Torres got that corker. Watch him do another one in the last minute tonight to send us through to the semis!

Paul Heron said...

@Robin J. Parrott - if we get through to the semi's I won't much care how or who scores the goals, it's gonna be amazing :-)

I still can't believe he scored that goal, I've lost count of how many times I've watched it now.
