It's not like we're badly in need of Gerrard returning to action any time soon. But LFC have confirmed that Gerrard is back in training, and that he should be fit for a return this Sunday against Newcastle.
Bear in mind that Newcastle are fighting for their Premiership survival, so this could turn out to be a tricky fixture despite their recent poor form. Rather than taking it for granted that we'll easily beat them, I hope the lads take the game seriously to ensure that we do.

This should be a simple game for us. Newcastle Utd are completely shite this season even after Shearer took over as manager. Michael Owen had an interview with the Guardian today and he pretty much admitted that they are resigned to losing against us.
Its a potential banana-skin for us.
Newcastle will fight like dogs for every ball as they are despeate for points.
I just hope it goes right for us and we get the win we need
I agree with the article. We should take each game seriously while we still have the title to think about!
I would like to see another 5-1 result or 5-0 would do too...
@Robbie - in theory, it should be a relatively easy game. But it would seem folly to take it for granted we'll win. I doubt they're going to just bend over for us, and if we play crap and they just park the bus in front of goal, that might have a rather undesirable outcome for us.
@John Toher - I also hope ManUre slip up on Saturday, that should give our lads extra drive on Sunday ;-)
This game is a fine example of a game that allows us to really boost our goal difference. There is no way Newcastle can cope with us if we really let fly at them. I cant wait to see Stevie G back for the Reds !!

off topic... united beat arsenal... im kinda hoping united make it to the final so arsenal would be out for revenge when they play them in the league right after that... also theirs the derby they have with city... something in me tells me this title race isnt over yet...
@suley - I'm also kinda hoping that Arsenal get knocked out, that way they won't be tempted to rest key players just before the final and sacrifice their last couple of games in the process. Hope Boro nick a couple (or few) points off Utd on Saturday.
I agree Paul with you, its going to be tough.. Looking at our reserves formation, one thing is comforting is that Jay Spearing and Nemeth are most probably in the first team for the magpipes fight.. Im worried about this match since I saw Shearer watching our hull city match. He saw the defence slip up (Insua gave up on the run while he could have beaten Giovanni) he is going to work our weak points. Dont forget Owen is in the formation and the rest of the players they have will give us a hard time.
I don't think there is any chance that we will take the game lightly, we need the win to stay in the title race and Rafa has been around long enough to drum this into the players.
I can not see how we could possibly lose this match though. Newcastle have not won since Christmas, and even with 3 strikers the other day, they could not score against Portsmouth. I think it is safe to say that they are going down at the end of the season.
If they park the bus in front of goal they have a slim chance of a draw, but even then our quality runs rings around their defence. Who is their best defender, I would not have a clue haha?
Torres, Gerrard, Benayoun and Kuyt will be far too good for them, end of story.

@Tawfig & @Scott - with Rafa now demanding the players produce a repeat performance of the one where we destroyed Newcastle a few months back, I think it's fair to say the players are under no illusions of what's expected of them now ;-)
If this game is 'tricky' then the word 'tricky' has no meaning because every game is at least 'tricky'. Yes, Newcastle might win but the players have got to go out with the attitude that this is a cricket score fixture.
As I said - cricket score. God, it was scary how rubbish they were
@deiseach - aye, I'm glad it turned out that way, crap game though.
