Woodwork awarded man of the match

Our propensity to beat the top teams and screw up against the smaller teams this season looked like repeating itself against Fulham. The first half was exciting stuff with plenty of attacking football and we were unlucky hitting the wordwork 4 times. But the second half was pretty boring stuff with Fulham predictably going all out to defend.

There was quite a few excellent performers, notably Gerrard, Torres, Dossena, and Babel. But Insua was the real stand out performer and he looks destined to make the left back slot his own for many years to come.

Just as I'm sure everyone was getting ready to write off our title challenge, up popped Benayoun to secure victory in the dying minutes. Sadly ManUre got lucky and beat Aston Villa today, which really hampers our chances of catching them. It's still a pretty exciting title run-in, but my money is on the Champions League being our best chance of silverware next month.

Please, insua was aweful in the match...made a few mistakes, there was no confidence to take on defenders. The cross to torres was argubly his only hightlight. Hope he needs significant improvement...

Nah, Benayoun has to be the real man of the match. The perfect squad player who doesn't moan and bitch. He came on and showed some awesome skill and really changed the game for us.

That was one bloody long and boring international break. Thank God we are back to the real football. We thoroughly deserved to win this game and am proud of the effort the players put in. Man Utd winning yesterday has taken some of the gloss off it but we can still do it.

Paul, I agree with all your comments except for Babel, who seems completely lost to me. The guy has not improved like we all expected and hoped he would. Dossena is far better in an attacking role as a winger, than as a left back (which is the position he was bought for in the first place) and he certainly deserves a mention after getting a lot of abuse from LFC fans.

Also Fulham are a good side this year, with Manure, Chelski and Arsenal all having trouble with them. I thought we did really well but really the score should have been another 5-0 with all the chances we had.

I think everyone will be dreading playing us over the next 6 - 7 weeks, and would not rule out a historic double. Manure are struggling a bit and should at the very least drop points against Arsenal.

I just hope the rumours about Kuwaiti interest in buying the club are true, and we piss off the useless Americans and welcome some owners with financial muscle and a tad of intregity.

@simon - yeah he was pretty impressive, and I do like him when he's on form, certainly makes for an excellent squad player.

@roger - it's gonna be real tight but I hope we can catch them.

@scott d - I actually thought Babel was alright against Fulham bar one or two hiccups.

Hmmm, owners with financial muscle and integrity, sounds like a very challenging prospect ;-)

Watching ManUre steal victory was wretched, but it helps if you have the ref, linesman and time keepers on your side 5 BLOOD MINUTES EXTRA TIME! I am surprised they did not get 30 minutes, glad I am not a Villa supporter this morning they are probably feeling robbed but hell their defence was rubbish in the second half. My Pool Award this week must go to Yossi (of come home all is forgiven fame) and Dossena.....as for that damn woodwork! I suggest someone sneaks over to Villa's Stadium and sets the offending posts alight.

Sorry!! I meant Fulhams Stadium ....Villa's innocent this time

@Bruce SA RED - LOL - at least we won ;-)

I can't believe how defeatist you sound Paul! Man Utd look shaky at home never mind the fact they had players suspended.

They have still to play arsenal and their derby match. Plus 2 against relegation strugglers. My money is on for one more defeat and a draw.

It aint over till the fat lady sings and Liverpool never do things the easy way.

Dossena looks uncomfortable on the ball. Babel needs to get the ball off his foot. Yossi was a real game changer and was great when he came on and is very exciting to watch. I like Insua in the back.
