The weekend started off well enough with news that Agger had finally put pen to paper and extended his contract by 4 years. Wow, that was one hell of a protracted contract saga with months of rumours and inuendo. Whether there was a temporary falling out between Rafa & Agger doesn't matter anymore because we've secured his future at LFC.
The weekend then took a turn for the worse when both Mascherano (twisted ankle) & Alonso picked up injuries against Newcastle. In Alonso's case he suffered bad bruising and had to be stretchered off, thanks to that scumbag Barton with his two footed challenge. Fortunately both players should be back training in a matter of days.

Yes i am extremely pleased the dagger has finally signed a contract extension. Lets put Carra on the bench next season and let the Agger/Skrtel partnership develop for the future please Rafa.
What is about opposition players doing disgraceful tackles agains poor Xabi Alonso. I believe that was the seventh time this season that an opposition player has seen red after tackling Xabi, which is utterly incredible I think.
I still say we need another world class striker, as Gerrard and Torres have only played 11 games together this season. Kuyt did pretty well but I would prefer another top shelf winger/striker as back up.
How shite were Newcastle, they are a mess. Nearly all their players are 30 or over and are past there best years surely. Only Obafemi Martins is an exception to that disgraceful team.
@Scott D - I feel sorry for Alonso but am impressed with his strong mentality. In the early days, I thought he might jump ship and leave LFC because of all the cynical challenges.
Agger' agent has denied any contract has been signed. The terms in general are agreed upon, but the details are still missing. There is no signatures from either Gerrard and Kuyt as well. Deals are in place, but nothing is signed yet. See the news from the official site. They never use the words "signed" or "signature".
Jess - Rafa says "I'm delighted we've secured his future at Anfield."
Surely he would not say that if the deal has not officially gone through. The club would look like monkeys if he ended up going elsewhere in the summer.
I think you are getting too clever looking for words like "signed" or "signature".
@Jess - ok, I've had another look at the official site, they don't use the word signed (just agreed), but Rafa does say they've secured his future. Also on Sky News they do say that he's actually signed :- http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_5271421,00.html
Whether he has or hasn't, I'm confident he's staying with us, and won't worry that he might leave us this summer.
I'm sure at least 2 will sign later, but for now, no pen has been put to paper. Think they announce these extensions so soon to show they now operate more directly. (compared to Rick Parry) I'm sure there are no problems with Gerrard & Kuyt, but I expect Aggers contract could have some sort of clause, number of appearances etc. Fingers crossed all will sign!
Well if thats true, why did the official website of the premierleague anounced the news?
Anyways I think its true, I'm just wondering when will Rafa put Spearing back into action for the 1st team.
@Tawfiq The Red - I'd love to see more of Spearing but I guess it mostly depends on Rafa's activity in transfer market this summer.
i just hope Rafa will not offload Alonso for the sake of Barry!

@Val - ditto ! Rafa recently said he wouldn't consider letting Alonso leave, I hope he sticks to that.
The official site, just announced that Alonso is a doubt for the Hammers match this weekend, but Mascherano should be fit to play.
