The legendary Sami Hyypia is leaving Liverpool

It's a shame that Hyypia will be leaving LFC this summer after being with us for the past decade. He has been a true legend for us over the years, not to mention one of our most consistent and reliable performers.

He still has bags of ability and deserves to be playing regularly, but that would be a tough thing at LFC considering the quality of competition for places. Perhaps his new club Bayer Leverkusen can offer him that.

For all the medals he has won with us over the years, the one which has eluded him is the Premier League winners medal. Hopefully there's still some time for him to deservedly claim one. YNWA Sami.

Oh Sami, Sami....

The man is a legend in his own lifetime. Like you say he was definitely one of the most consistent performers we have been blessed with. Would love to see him back in a coaching role in the future.

Sami is one of the greatest players we've ever had. If United slip up and we win the league it will be the perfect ending to his career. Is he getting a testimonial ?

No! I haven't been keeping up with the news and this is first I'm hearing of it. I can't believe it. Shame. He's been great for Liverpool! Good on ya, Sami

I am from Mauritius. And I was at Anfield for the Hull game last December. At the heart of the Liverpool defence, Hyypia was immense, towering, a colossus that day. Steven Gerrard scored twice, but together with Alonso it was Hyypia who really caught my eye. Seated a few feet away with her dad, was a little girl, not more than 6-7 years old, and she kept shouting "I love you, Sami!" Need we say more?

Gutted to see him leave, was hoping he would sign a one year extension or something. Thanks for everything Sami, you are a legend.

A true LFC legend and the best centre half in the Premier League over the course of the last decade. The epitome of class.

Sorry to see Sami leave. The simplest way of summing the effect he has had on the club is that when he arrived Liverpool's defence was a colossal joke. Nothing worked and nobody seemed able to overcome the stench of failure. No one thinks that now, or has done since he arrived.

Goodbye, Sami. We'll miss you.
