Much kudos goes to Gerrard

It's weird to think that it's been so long since a Liverpool player last won the Footballer of the Year Award from the Football Writers' Association. Me thinks it was Barnes all the way back in 1990.

Although my own preference would have been for Xabi Alonso to win due to his consistently brilliant performances this season. I'm relieved that Gerrard won this award as he definitely deserved it above Giggs & Rooney.

At last there's some sense left in this world. It would have been a travesty of justice if Giggs had won this award also. Gerrard completely deserved this.

Congrats Stevie. The best player in the world for me.

@dummy - that Giggs was even nominated is shocking, he only had a dozen or so appearances (average performances too).

Stevie G has really grown and matured as a player and captain. This award is due recognition of same.

The last time a Liverpool player won this, we also won the league ;-)

Steven Gerrard is an immense player at his peak who deserves this award. Next up is winning the Premiership.

@Roberto - fingers crossed Wigan & Arsenal will take some points off ManUre before we even play our next match, that way we're in with a chance of winning it this month.

Its just what he deserved. Good to see the writers have some sense.

Fully deserved. He has been brilliant all season long. Good to see the award given for merit instead of sentiment.

@Marcus - definitely, as Giggs winning again would've been farcical.

Well done Stevie for being the best player in the Premiership this season.

Gerrard has been simply brilliant this season. He definitely deserves the award.

Like the other guy said it was a joke that Giggs was even nominated, let alone win that award. He is not even a regular starter these days, and I believe he has only 1 goal for the season.

Its a joke how the league is so fascinated with United that it just has to help it out with crap refeering decisions, and also hand out awards to players just coz they are from Manure. I was shocked when I read that Giggs won that award.

A great player over a long time period, but if they had to give it to a Manure player Van Der Saar should have considered way before him.

@Scott D - at least it's one less thing for ManUre to win this season. Was gutted last night when they beat Wigan close to the end of the game. All they need is one more point to win the league :-(
