Such was the impact which Insua made last season during his first team appearances, it's hard to think of him as a reserve player. Insua was deservedly voted the reserve player of the season (poll on the official LFC site). But next season, we can forget all about seeing Insua in the reserves, as he has proven he's definitely good enough for the first team.
Probably the best thing about the progress which Insua has made this season, is the positive effect this could have on the other youth players. Knowing a first team breakthrough is possible, should result in them being more motivated and also encouraging other young talents to sign for LFC. We're bound to reap the benefits of that in the years ahead.

this is true. insua coming through for what was a fee of around £1m when we signed him, is like signing a £7m player. hopefully a few more can break through and justify the number of players we have bought from youth teams across the world
I think Jay Spearing is another who should be given a chance this season. I can't remember what match he came on as a sub few months ago but he certainly looked a million times hungrier than what Babel has done at any stage!
If Auerlio stays fit then Insua will be used as sub(and cup games) more often than not....but Fabio's got a bit of the ol' glass ankle disease so Insua could get plenty of games!
There's a high percentage of luck involved for any youth player. If Dossena had been any good then Insua never would have had as many 1st team games and he would only have a chance of being a squad player. Only exceptional players have a real chance.
@Darren - Pacheco, Bruna, and Dalla Valle all look like strong candidates to make the breakthrough.
@Gary - I like Aurelio, but yeah the guy is made of glass, which is good news for Aurelio though ;-)
@Zoran - true, but I still think it could help attract more youth talent to LFC.
Gary it was the Real Madrid 2nd leg game and yes you're absolutely right, he has talent and potential and deserves a huge chance!
Aurelio had a fine season, but in all honesty he is to old for what should be one of the highest energy positions in the park.
I have my fingers crossed that Insua knocks him of the starting place this season and cements himself as a star player.
High hopes!
Spearing is just what Gerrard was like when he broke into the first team, I cannot wait he will be ready when Stevie retires :)
Pacheco and Nemeth have bags of skill both of which will break into the first team soon, hope to see them start the odd league cup game next season.
Yes Insua has had an exceptional season, but Aurelio has also had a good one scoring a beautiful free kick against man u. I believe Insua will repace. However Insua is still not a patch on the likes of ashley cole and patrice evra. We need to bring in top quality attacking full backs who can help us win games. Insua just isnt that.
