Spearing and Darby need competitive football

As several youth players got promoted yesterday from the youth academy up to Melwood and the reserve team set up, it seems high time for some of the more established reserve team youth players to move on.

Spearing and Darby are both nearly 21 and after a few years in the reserves, neither of them have made a much of a break through to the first team. They're talented players but unless they're going to get much action in the first team next season, it seems pointless to let them rot in the reserves.

It's probably best for both players to go out on loan next season. Some competitive football would hugely benefit their development, and from there we can see if they're good enough for LFC (even as future squad players).

That's what's wrong with today's world - everyone thinks their opinions should be heard.

Darby will never be good enough for LFC.
Spearing is already good enough and a better prospect than Leiva. Should sell Leiva and make Spearing a first team player.

Darby may make it as a squad player.
Lucas is vastly under-rated and will probably be better than Alonso once he's 28.

Darby was outstanding when he came on during that CL match. The same can be said for Spearing too, give them more chances I say.

Stop the Lucas-Bashing, just 'cos it is fashionable it doesn't make it right!

Brazilians have a history of getting adapted to the english game, Look at Aurelio hes just started to adapt. Fabio will be awesome next season mark my words.

If Lucas is a Rafa Flop hes still 100x better than a Houllier flop would have been!

The latter part of the season I thought Lucas improved considerably. Then I read the explanation from his own words

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N164728090612-0847.htm

He's identified the weaknesses in his own game and I think he deserves another chance in a more squad player role. Even The "World Class Show Pony" Ronaldo had work on his weaknesses and no wonder SurAlexFungusFaceWhiskyNose has taken the money from Fake Madrid and run!

Lucas has been made a scapegoat for our losses and hes nowhere as bad as people make out. He was spectacular in our thrashing of Newcastle and pivotal in our Old Toilet Victory. Conveniently they have been forgotten!!

Jay Spearing is a great player but isn't he a tad lightweight for the PL ?? Darby has potential but cant risk a defensive position in a PL assualt hence Rafa's dilemma. I was worried that last year we sold Finnan and Riise but thankfully not too much impact so the boss knows he has to tighten up defence in the Post-Hyypia era. Rafa is smarter than anybody gives him credit for.

Im sorry but in what way is Spearing better than Leiva? Leiva - a Brazilian international and a winner of South American footballer of the Year - and Spearing - Yet to play for England U21's and looks distinctly average even in the reserves. As much I would like to see some local players come through neither of these come near to hitting the mark.

to the first guy who posted (07:25) i presume you include your self?

Spearing is not average and has been outstanding in the reserves. Looked great when he came on against Real MAD-rid. Leiva is improving as he gets stronger, but I still have doubts about him. Now that we seem to realize the importance of destroying teams early on, maybe Darby and Spearing might come on as subs when we're 2/3 goals up with 20 min to go and then build from that.

P.S. To 07:25 at least he's offering an opinion. W/O these guys we'll be swamped by all the Liverpool bashing BS in the media.

Real Madrid may have been an opportunity for Spearing to showcase his talents without the physicality of the PL which Lucas has problems with.

If you remember Madrid were not at the races that day so difficult to assess Spearing's talent on one game. If you were to assess Lucas' talent on the Newcastle game away you would say he was definitely World Class. Lucas has far more talent than most numpties comment. A Gerrard type player is rare and Brazilians always take time to acclimatize to the European game.

We will see the level of progress and his football intelligence next season b4 reaching a decision to sell ( who knows he may be used as a transfer pawn by rafa this season)

BUT I agree that Lucas should be a fringe player. I hope Rafa uses him selectively next season.

This should be the case with new additions and a fully fit squad.

Spearing always looks lively in the preseasons and is a great wee player but the demands of a full season are different so bleed him in slowly so we don't burn him out too early too young.

Leiva will be a brilliant player, he is working on his strength to compare with his undoubted natural ability. He needs to work on hios decision making yes, but playin with Gerrard, alonso and mascherano makes liverpool the perfect place to learn.

Darby and Spearing, well im not so sure about, we love homegrown so maybe its a case of rose-tinted glasses? Send them out into the championship to see if they have the physical attributes to compete.

At 21, I am kinda doubtful, but i would love to be proven wrong. It is Nemeth I would love to see in the Premiership.

Whats annoying me is our slugness in the transfer market. We need Glen Johnson, a fantastic player, but i fear we may get beaten to him as well.

i hear possibilities of a gluton of players, but very little action, as of yet. Now I trust Rafa, but please pal, hurry up and put my nerves at rest!!!!

I believe also Adam Hammil needs a break, the boy has talent

@Tawfiq The Red - the advantage which Hammill has is that he's getting first team football elsewhere which allows him to develop and mature as a player.

Loan is fine with me as long as thet dont sell him!!
