Well what do you know, Liverpool has beaten Arsenal to the signing of a French youngster. Now that's something which you don't see every day.
The 18 year old defender (can play at full back and centre back) has signed from Paris Saint Germain for an undisclosed fee. As ever, he's being portrayed as one of those brightest ever prospect types (we'll soon see).
Considering that he's just turned 18 years old, I imagine he'll be going straight to Melwood. But I wonder if he will be fast tracked to the first team in similar fashion to Ngog. Hope we get an early glimpse of him in pre-season.

Ever since Hyypia left, I've wondered who Benitez would get to fill in as our 4th choice centre back. Maybe this kid could be the answer, or maybe he could be the next Traore ;-)
Please no!! We don't want anymore Traore's!! One was bad enough!!
It's good that we are looking for young talent and signing them, but, it's pointless if they are not going to get a chance in the first team.
Surely, 1 or 2 of the younsters we have signed are good enough for the first team?
It doesnt look good for the lad as Arsenal were more interested in his team mate Mamadou Sakho who also plays center back.
I bet Benitez only got him to keep Ngog company. He always likes to pair nationalities so players dont feel alone etc
Another no name youth player who will disappear into the void of LFC.
@Larry + &Shaheen - ouch, hope he ain't no Traore, that guy made me laugh and cry in equal measures !!
Traore did win the european cup and played all 120mins of the final......but he was(and is) quite shit.
lol traore won the eauropean cup... still sounds funny.... i mean there have been so many great players that could never get their hands on the cup.... and here we have traore... who at his very very best can be described as a below average player... life is funny sometimes
@suley - like I said, Traore made me laugh and cry in equal measures, especially in Istanbul.
As bad as he was (and is), he has a Champions League winners medal with Liverpool, which a certain Michael Owen doesn't have.
Didn't Owen leave Liverpool to win major trophies at Real Madrid?
Now that makes me laugh!!
@Shaheen - I'll bet Owen joined ManUre in the hope of winning trophies there too, but I reckon it's Liverpool who will be winning the trophies and not ManUre ;-)
Why are people complaining that Rafa has signed lots of youth players and saying along the lines of "whats the point if they aint gonna make the first team" well the youth players that are brought in such as mavinga are relitavly low cost (certainly less that 1mil) so whats the risk? the worst case scenario being they dont turn out to be good enough and are moved on for a similar fee that we payed for them and the best scenario being weve bagged a future world class player for a bargain... great ideology from rafa id say.
Also to the traore haters on here... he was bad half of the time and very sloppy but dont slag the guy off, he done well in the european cup final... one performance doesnt make up for all the errors but give him a break and respect him as a former player of the team you love, the one and only liverpool
Lets be honest - traore was a complete representation of the Houllier youth system. Benitez is changing things at anfield and has reconstructed the way things are done in this area and even brought in King Kenny to contribute. Purchasing youth players is also a sign of the times. Man ushited won the league with a young side and Arsenal are always earning backs of money by producing young talent and then selling them on. A team isnt static but instead like a river which ebbs and flows and therefore players will always come and go - what would you rather have... a manager who doesnt invest in a youth policy?
