Well the transfer window is finally open, no doubt the media will treat us to even more rumours which have no basis in reality. But with Rafa now having more control over transfers, hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see who the real transfer targets are.
There's been quite a few departures from LFC already (Hyypia, Pennant, Hobbs, Anderson, Leto), with more to follow (possibly Dossena, Arbeloa, and Babel). We've already made one big signing (Johnson) and it'll be interesting to see who else Rafa has in mind.

you forgot the big possibly... Alonso... would be horrible if he does end up leaving... just would be so difficult to replace him...
i think babel's going to stay
an we'll see alot more of him this season.
other wise, he would have been mouthing all over the papers that he wants to leave... rafa must have made him aware he's going to be alot more involved.
we all hope to see alonso and mascherano in red next season. the tabloids like to twist stories... but we really dont know as we're outsiders.
i would really want alonso and mascherano to come out clean themselves instead of hearing agents words, so they can push for a quick easy couple of million pounds
please please please get rid of lucas!!!!
Lucas is not that bad, I think he progressed towards the end of last season and I think we will see better from him next season.
i would really love to see another striker up front with torres (god)as we depend on him to much
@suley - it was more a case of I don't want to consider the possibility of him leaving ;-)
I really hope Alonso has some clear the air talks with Rafa asap.
@john + Jason - I've got mixed opinions on Lucas, there's undoubted potential there and he's still very young. I'd like to see him have another season to develop and then decide...
I say get rid of Lucas, Voronin and Dossena they are simply not good enough.
Spearing is more than adequate to replace Lucas. You would free up £4-6mil from Lucas and Rafa wouldn't have to worry about the 'home-grown' ruling for the Champions Lge.
Also I hope Alonso stays but have a feeling he wants to play for 1 of the 2 top sides in La Liga to get the recognition he deserves in his home country.
If he were to leave 2 players spring to mind of similar playing styles also younger ( which rules out both Pirlo + Senna)
Miguel Veloso of Sporting Lisbon and an Englishmen Tom Huddlestone. Ok neither of them are of his high quality but they posses the similar ones which need some fine tuning.
with reference 2 the comment about babel staying and performing betr this year, benitez has already told him he can go.
Adding another striker with Torres up top is a nice idea, but it completely throws off the 4-2-3-1 formation that worked so well last season. Getting a striker that can play as well as Torres but by himself or along side Gerrard would be most helpful.
@bazza - very true ;-)
@epiblast - was more thinking along the lines of a winger meself, but you're right we could do with another striker for backup purposes
I like Lucas and think that we will see an improved and stronger player this year. He now has a much better idea of what is needed from him to excel in the EPL. It's OK with me if Alonso leaves. Even Mascher... but I would like to see both stay at least one more year. I prefer to hear how our players are enthused by our team and not "it would be OK" if I play there another year!
@magnum - I'd be gutted if Alonso or Mascherano were to leave, hope Rafa can kiss and make up with Alonso asap
Keep Lucas! He will rise to the challenge this season. When he first signed I saw him play for the reserves, box to box, for 90 minutes at an exceptional standard. He will bring that quality to the top level I'm certain of it.
I think Dossena, also, will show more this coming season and with Johnson on the other side we will be very strong.
I think Masch will stay and Alonso will go so with the money from that we won't be buying "potential".
I don't mind Kuyt on the right wing and he scored enough goals but I think we also need a natural right winger for different types of games.
Nemeth and Pacheco aren't ready yet and I'm not too sure how good Ngog and El Zhar will become so I reckon a world-class, versatile attacker would make a good addition. Overall, I'm confident we can improve on last season's total points.
@Bazza rafa has said babel will not be leaving liverpool this year as babel has shown loyalty by saying he wants to win trophies at liverpool and rafa has spoken to babel and his agent and they have all agreed babel is to stay at liverpool.
Dossena is also a high possibilty to stay as fabio aurelio is to miss the first month or so of the season after a freak accident playing football with his kids in his garden has led to him needing sugery on a injured knee. Nobody has shown an interest in voronin so he could stay as he wants to fight and prove himself at anfield these were his own words, but it is rumoured he could be used in player plus cash for david silva but rumours rarely end up true.
@Graham - I agree Nemeth ain't ready, but I'm dying to see Pacheco in a few games this season, maybe Rafa could give him a few cup games. Crikey, I forgot all about Ngog, not sure what to make of that !?!
@Adlfc - I heard a few rumours about Aurelio doing his knee in, but LFC haven't confirmed anything yet, which makes me doubt them. If true then yeah it seems like Dossena would be hanging around a little longer, or maybe Rafa will let him go as we've got Insua and Agger who can play there.
My advice to Rafa dont sell babel, with his speed, agility and shooting ability, he will obviously be a good player in the future. We need some futue talent as we dont have the money to spend like the other big clubs.
Also Macherano and Alonso are geat holding midfielders and feature in the squad always, they must stay.
We should also sign a great striker, alongside torres. I believe if we signed another good striker, loosing alonso would not be so bad.
