Skrtel is out, but Agger is back

The quality of football on display during pre-season doesn't really matter, as it's all about building up player fitness levels and getting some practice in before the Premier League begins.

With that in mind, I didn't have any expectations about yesterdays match against Thailand. But it was pretty disappointing to see Skrtel limping off due to a hamstring injury (not sure how serious it is yet).

We'll have to wait and see what the scans produce but the timing is awful. Fortunately Agger is back already, but since Hyypia has left LFC, we're looking a little light on cover for central defense.

El Zhar also got even worse injury than Skrtel. I know that doesn't impact us but still worth a mention.

The recent injuries to Agger + Skrtel should encourage Benitez to make a move for another defender. We really need one.

It's cool guys. We have Agger for one. Also, Kelly and Ayala look like they can step in to the breach (not so sure about San Jose) and also Johnson can play CB as well.

Johnson can play CB ?????

@Marcus - yeah, am not too concerned about El Zhar. Wonder what Rafa will decide about strenghtening our defence.

Johnson's favoured position is centre back.He actually played quite a few times in that position for west ham.I'd rather see him at right back though, he can play a killer ball and finish alot of sides off. Gutted for skrtel though, i was hoping to see the agger/skrtel partnership flourish this season.

Scans have since revealed that he strained his hamstring and will be out for 3 weeks.
