Long winded season previews

Regular readers are no doubt all too familiar with my preference for concise posts. With that in mind, I thought I'd take my own shot at a season preview (seeing as everyone else is doing one).

Through a combination of winning and drawing games, I reckon Liverpool will finish with more points than any other team this season. Worst case scenario, that won't happen and we don't we win number 19 (but we will).

End of season preview.

Hmmm, this seems to lack the scale of a Paul Tomkins style season preview...

I think there is a good chance of us winning the Premiership but a lot of it depends on whether Aguilani can settle quickly or Lucas can rise to the challenge. The rest of our team is definitely good enough.

Short, yet correct...i concur!

@Larry - normally I don't like reading a great big wall of text, but in the case of Tomkins, I find it's usually worth the effort.

@Isak - well I do hope it turns out to be a somewhat prophetic post ;-)

I want really liverpool to win the league but squad depth is a huge problem. Benitez really needs to sign another defender and also striker. Injuries could kill us.

As long as the scum dont win and we have a very good title run in then I will be happy. #19 is the ultimate dream and its only a matter of time before we get it :-)

Finally a season preview which sums everything up nicely with no negative nonsense. Call me greedy but I want us to go one step further than just winning the Premier League.

Specifically I want to see us play Real Madrid in the Champions League final and beat them in their own stadium.

@Emmet - I don't think that's being overly greedy, a double would be sweet, but most of us will settle for the Premier League....

Our squad still looks a little light on cover in places but with a little luck on injuries we should definitely win the league.

Based on the comments made by our new boys, Johnson and Aqui, this new season sounds very very exciting. We've heard it before, but not by two technically strong players and both with an obvious great desire, having backgrounds in major clubs with similar ambitions to ours. Also that they both play in national teams is a big plus and pointer of their abilities. I can actually say that i'm more excited than i was last season when the points came rolling in...

Part of me is really excited and part of me is a little dubious about our prospects.

Aguilani + Johnson should make excellent signings but I really think Benitez should have signed a winger/striker and another defender.

If our squad depth isn't cruelly exposed again this season then yes we should win the league.

@Isak - the more I think about it, the happier I am that we signed those 2, I had some initial doubts Aguilani, but I think he could be something special for us.

@Marcus - certainly another defender is needed but we might just get away without getting another winger/striker - we've plenty of players who can play in those positions for now...

@Paul - Exactly. Alberto Aquilani is great. I sure, as i mentioned it before, that one benitez fits him up good (as he usually does with our boys), we might just have one of the best midfielders in the world. And let me justify why i mean that. I remember clearly one match for Roma where he made a wonderful pass to Mancini. As Roma retreated back to their own half (after losing the ball) he suddenly got the ball, and whithout looking back he flicked the ball and passed right into Mancini's path, who then crossed it so Totti could score a wonderful header in behind the keeper. It wasn't just luck, since Aquilani was apart of the attack before they lost the ball, and judging by the pass, in his head, he knew where Mancini was. He's very clever at passing the ball. So, once again to all those who doubt his fitness, Benitez will fit him up good and make him one of his important "Pistoleros"!

@Isak - Pistoleros ?

Gunmen... :)

@Isak - ahhh, gotcha ;-)

There's a lot to be said for keeping it succint. All those thousands of words written making little of Arsenal's chances this season look worthless already.

@deiseach - crikey, what a terrible opener to the season, think I'll go to bed now and rest after the day out with lads (am out of practise and need the rest before work tomorrow).
