So far pre-season has produced some lacklustre displays and poor results. Losing 3-0 against Espanyol was the worst of the lot. But it really doesn't matter and certainly isn't worth losing any sleep over it.
Building fitness is what's important, and not the result. Think of these games as glorified training sessions to give the lads a bit of a workout. Realistically these games won't negatively impact player confidence, so no harm done.
The only thing to be concerned about at this stage, is probably our midfield situation. With only a couple of weeks remaining before the league starts, we need this sorted out asap.

yes but it does show the midfield with lucas and masch does not have any go forward at all.
hopefully if we do lose alonso we get a replace who has some creative skills to push gerrard, torres, kuyt and riera forward
This is getting very frustrating. Benitez should have strengthened our defense by now but no moves have been made to sign anyone.
Also the only midfielder which Benitez seems to have made serious moves for is Aquilani but that guy is WAY too injury prone to make it in the Premiership.
There is only 13 days left. We are running out of time to get our act together before the match with Spurs.
its only a game :) i expect if rafa did have the power to get us the players we need (1 def / 1 attacking midfielder and 1 stiker to keep torres company / provide cover) he would of got them by now.
i just hope we stop paying over the odds for english players - shame we missed out on barry for just 12m..
Im concerned, bigtime! We look so lacklustre in attack. No creativity, babel aint good enough, kuyt, yossi and rieri are too inconsistent, degen is the worst defender i've seen in ages! We need xabi to stay cause without him there is no tempo to our play. Please rafa, go buy a good striker, right winger, right back cover and an awesome replacement if xabi goes... don't ask me who... van der vaart/sneijer/negredo? I'd love ashley young, villa, silva... time will tell.....
i do think of the pre season games as training sessions but the games weve had are not exactly hard ones and i'd like to think we could beat any of these sides at any given time regardless of fitness. saying that our fitness levels are awful at present we seem to be struggling to put 5 passes together and our concentration certainly isnt there. i didnt enjoy watching last nights game one bit. Gerrard seemed to be the only player up for it. I just hope all the bad play will be out of their system come the 16th.
@crazy & Larry - well Aguilani is certainly very creative but also very injury prone. Players like Martinez would offer more solidity. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what Rafa decides...
@cheesemeister - I agree with you on Degen, but think Babel still has potential. As for Kuyt, Benayoun and Riera, I'll not judge them on pre-season as they've all proven their worth in the Premier League (especially Kuyt who is one of our more consistent players).
@kev oman - truth be told, the thing that bothered me most about last nights match was that the LFC TV picture kept hanging and disappearing for me ;-)
talking about lfctv, does anybody know what is happening with the subscription? and how many games have we got on the new espn channel? I have just put my £20 bet on us winning the league and champions league double. 44/1 at coral, worth a flutter i thought.
I would rather these problems manifest during pre-season than when the PL starts! If we blitzed everyone in our wake now we could be lulled into a false sense of security (e.g. Spurs last year). Also it could make the Americans realise that we need to spend some money (well maybe not). But if we won with ease I could see their football naive brains thinking that we have all the players we need, when we do not, especially if Xabi goes!
I can't believe there are people so concerned with some poor games in pre-season........zzzzzzzz
@kev oman - 44/1 ? I think I'll have to consider placing a wee bet meself ;-)
@Ben - and it looks like he will be going....
@Adam - it's the withdrawal symptoms, we're all dying for the season proper to begin ;-)
In the old days champions invariably played badly in the pre-seasons so don't attach too much importance to those games!
Rafa is not gonna come up with 2 sets of teams in the Premiership is he?
@Paul remember Barry last season? Liverpool don't have to sell Alonso if Real don't meet our demands.
