At the risk of rubbing anyone the wrong way (not a first for me), I think it would be fair to suggest that Fiorentina deserved to win. They were much better than us in the first half and defended very well in the second.
Best to forget about it. There's plenty of games left in the group for us to recuperate, and we'll probably take them apart at Anfield.
If anything it opens up the group a little bit and makes it more interesting, you wouldn't want us to walk the group now, would you ?

Actually yeah I really would like us to walk it !
Credit to Fiorentina they were awesome on the offensive and the speed at which they got back to defend was very impressive. We can afford the loss at this early stage so I wont lose any sleep. The lads better step up their game against Chelsea if they want to get anything out of it.
@Scouserine - they looked awesome only because we made them look that way by playing poorly. Jovetic was the key for them, great little player who we need to contain at Anfield.
It looks like this could be very tight group whic goes to the very last game. I can see both Fiorentina and Lyon finishing with over 10 points each which presents with quite a challenge.
I still see in the last 16 but we are really gonna have to fight for it.
@Larry - which makes it all the more exciting ;-)
(well as long as we qualify, which we should)
@Paul - great little player who likes to dive !
one european commentator said fiorentina's back line was up high with the midfield, which killed off all our attacks. basically rafa was outsmarted by his opponent
I will start by saying Benetez does a good job taking into account the financial constraints that are put upon him, but Aurelio & Lucas away to an Italian team that came fourth last year !
He made this mistake against Leeds and only just got away with it, surely he had to sacrifice Gerrard to midfield.
On this occasion I'm sorry but he dropped one !!
@Scouserine - touche ;-)
@David - that probably didn't help matters but it shouldn't excuse the lack of effort from most of our players.
Terrible game against a very good side Fiorentina. Was apprehensive when I heard we were playing them (along with Lyon).
They really bossed the midfield. Lucas and Aurelio and our back four couldn't do much.
Felt that Liverpool didn't use their WIDTH well. Maybe rafa too conservative. Riera wasn't around. Babel lit it up.. albeight briefly.
In summary -- deserved loss. Fiorentina has quality players. Who said Italian league played slowly?
@gunther_furlong - they were a lot better than I was expecting. Hope they don't sit back at Anfield as they'd be a real tough cookie to break down.
I nearly fell in love with Fiorentina...great play, counter-attack as it should be played, Jovetic for Liverpool...
@Isak - as long as it was just nearly ;-)
Don't worry, it was just for one match...and only just nearly. No other teams plays like Liverpool :-)
...and Jovetic for Liverpool, before that old geezer, Ferguson, snaps his harpy-claws on him...
@Isak - he'll cost a pretty penny, what are the odds of City etc outbidding us (assuming Rafa even wants him)
We definately don't want to walk the group, it's just not the Liverpool way is it? Lol.
Great blog by the way,
Kirsty.

@Kirsty_LFC - sure that's what makes following the Reds so much fun ;-)
The wobbly group stages are some of my greatest matches lol especially things like Olympiakos match, how epic was that?
I still think we could walk this looking at it realistically though it's only Lyon away now that should really cause us any major problems. Atleast that's how it looks on paper lol.
Do you have an option to follow your blog? I can't find the thing on your page.
Hi Kirsty, there's another way to follow it when you log into Blogger.
At the bottom of your reading list there's an ADD button, just key in the web address there (http://www.myanfield.net/)
I don't use the follow gadget as it slows down the loading speed of the blog.
Thanks for that! I shall add it now :)
