Agger is back, while Kyrgiakos is out

We've been waiting a long time for Agger to return and it looks like he's finally regaining his fitness after playing in both of Denmarks matches this week. Plus the timing of his return couldn't be better.

You see Kyrgiakos is after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament and it means the guy faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines (4-6 months). But it shouldn't prove to be a big loss for us now that Agger is back.

Perhaps this might also mean that Ayala gets to play a couple more games for us this season. He looks a decent prospect. Regardless we should have sufficient defensive cover while Kyrgiakos is out.

The big greek wasnt the only casualty of the international break. Gerrard and Torres picked up minor injuries. Looks like they will miss the Sunderland game.

Really chuffed for Agger and I hope Carra finds himself sitting on the bench until he remembers how to fight for his place.

@Scouserine - not too bothered about G+T, surely we take Sunderland without them !?!

Can't wait to see Agger playing again, such an awesome player :-)

Great news about Agger. Such a class player, I'd have him in the denfensive midfield role in place of Masch. Much better defensively and in going forward, great passer too.
Go Agger!

@Imran - you could be on to something there, Agger would probably make an excellent defensive midfielder.

What I love about Mascherano though is his terrific engine, he's relentless at hunting down the opposition.

Good point Paul but I'd really like to see Agger trying that role, I think it'd be a great move for the balance of the team. Pass the word!

Better still, why not have Agger as a sweeper behind Carra and Skrtel man markers. Would provide defensive cover for slow coach Carra, but also offer Agger free role to come forward. At the same time we could have marauding Johnson and possibly Riera as wing backs. With Gerrard Aquilani and Masch in the middle, and Toress and Yossi/Babel up front. How's that.

@Imran - I've a sneaking suspicion that Rafa will probably go with a midfield pairing of Aquilani & Mascherano, and a defensive pairing of Agger & Skrtel.

But if we were to find ourselves short on midfield cover one day, then Agger could be an interesting option....

@Heron, you seem to have forgotten Sunderland is in good form this season almost beating Man Ure at Old Toilet(!) Playing them away won't be an easy proposition without G+T

And Aquilani is not playing till the league cup match.

Agger as a defensive Midfielder? Hmmm...intriguing and interesting idea, as an advanced cover for skrtel and Carra! The man's passing i just as good as Alonso's, so why not??? Worth a try...

@Isak - crikey, the more I think about it, the more I'd really like to see it for a few games....
