Apart from a nervy 20 odd minutes towards the end of the match, Liverpool were awesome against Man Utd, there can be no doubting we deserved to win. The following were the real stand performers :-
Carragher was immense and showed us the Carra of old with a domineering performance and never gave United a chance (although he got lucky with avoiding a red card for his challenge on Owen).
Agger surprisingly didn't look a player just back from long term injury. Alongside Carra, he cleaned up everything at the back and treated us to his unique ability to effortlessly play the ball from the back.
Insua stood out for all the wrong reasons. The poor kid seems to be having a crisis of confidence in recent matches, but he still showed some glimpses of talent and I imagine it's only a minor blip in his form.
Mascherano picked up a silly red card, but that shouldn't detract from another excellent performance where he broke up play all over the pitch.
Lucas is looking more and more like a complete player, his energetic display was topped off with superb tackling and passing vision, it's a shame that some people continue to doubt him.
Torres is clearly not fit yet, but his clinical finishing was the crucial difference in breaking down United and giving us the deserved lead.
Ngog must have nerves of steel. Consider what was at stake in the dying minutes of the match, yet he perfectly placed the ball into the corner of the net and the ensuing noise nearly lifted roof off of Anfield.
This was our 3rd consecutive victory over United. In the bad old days, I used to almost fear these matches, now I relish the opportunity to witness Liverpool take them to the cleaners each time.

Brilliant result and everyone was a hero. My voice is still hoarse from all the shouting. Lucas has surely silenced his critics now (myself included). We got the best midfield in the world again !
Excuse my english, but.........HELL F#%$ING YEAH OOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHH YEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!! LIVERPOOL!!! N'gog was the coolest man of the match and so was Pepe Reina!!! I love a little win over United!
@Simon - yeah i got a bit of a soar throat meself, but i love it ;-)
@Isak - excuse your english ? I thought that was very eloquently put ;-)
Paul you are being harsh on Carragher Owen pulled him first ...It was a yellow not a straight red it would have been rude!
On the match itself well we hammered them we fought for every ball That's what we're capable of we should go straight to the neck of opponets In the premier it's not only talent the determination that counts...if we continue like this there's no reason we won't win this bloody league!!
Rafa's wins us over again Good lck to him over theseason we'll nedd that.
It's between Chelski and us i think...
@Anonymous - I didn't mean to be harsh on the lad, I thought he was amazing and genuinely thrilled with the effort he displayed. It just seemed like the kind of challenge which refs usually give red cards for...
Here's my opinions.
1) Owen pushed Carra as much as Carra pulled Owen. Carra actually went down 1st. Therefore Yellow was fair.
2) Lucas played well by his standards. I still think Gerrard and Mascherano in CM with Aquilani in AM will be our strongest midfield.
3) Yossi should have been man of the match. Yet again he was on fire. He should be playing every game.
4) Carra did play amazingly well. Really really well as did Agger.
5) Ngog although I don't rate him (man did he get lucky with that finish! Van Der Saar should have done a bit better), did very well at harassing the Manc defense and putting pressure on them.
Carra n Agger were supreme, Glen showed discipline n character, Masch was monumental n Lucas is proving that we never needed Barry, Yossi was my man of the match n 'El Nino' has a Liverpool heart as big as any scouser...he is the next KOP legend...Stevie's influence was apparent as he was helping the boys all week, sorry RF, but god has found another form...Zoe from Durban South Africa.
Performance of the season, absolutely superb stuff from everyone. Benayouns pass for Torres goal was just incredible.
What a fantastic day. I love how we can take the big teams in recent seasons. Really need to start doing that against the smaller teams too though.
Well im sorry i want writing anymore but really i forgot all my disapointment now.. it was un believable, tears of joy have finally dropped.. It meant so much, we needed this really.. Glad to see the new defence game plan, i hope they maintain it.. Im excisted its all coming together again.. What a wonderfull life, aint it :D
YNWA everyone
Azza - To call Ngog's finish lucky, is harsh to the absolute extreme. Coming on as a substitute in the most hottly contested match of the season with a one on one in the dying minutes to seal the win after a nervy 20 minutes in front of the Kop after the critiscm he has faced in his previous performances I think it is an incredibly cool finish.
I'm delighted for the lad, have always rated him, I think he needs to strengthen up a bit and learn how to manipulate defences with his positioning in the way Torres showed against Rio, but he's still young and has plenty of time to learn from the best in the world in Nando.
His previous performances havent done him justice becuase he's been up top on his own a position which doesn't suit him, and is a difficult task for an inexperienced striker. Hopefully the goal will boast his confidence and he can improve from here I still think he has a job to do this season and seasons to come.
YES AND NGOG is a very sweet lad HE dedicated his goal to his family which i think was great. It s not easy for a young lad to come from a foreign country and produce goals in perhaps the most difficult position in modern football.NGOG has the making of a legend....he scoring rate is very good he ll only blossom from that wonderful goal he took it with cool and expert.
ON BENAYOUN he was instrumental deserve the praise i just frikkin wish he would take his chances when the opposition defence are in havoc.HE can score many goals it s just that he waits too much then doesN't know what to do!
@Azza - crikey I forgot to even mention poor Yossi, thought he had an excellent game also. Have to disagree with you about Ngog finish being lucky, but each to their own ;-)
@Zoe - I've fond memories of Fowler but I also rate Torres as our new God.
@Scouserine - I reckon the lads will realise they have to turn it on against the smaller teams now that we're playing catch up.
@Tawfiq The Red - I got a good feeling we're about to embark on a run of good league form now.
@Edd - the fact that it was in the dying minutes just made it even better, the perfect way to finish the match.
@Edd
He was lucky because if Van Der Saar had been on better form, he would have saved it.
Sure considering he's still young and it's probably the biggest game he's played, he did well to keep his cool and get it on target.
But on another day with another keeper it probably would have been saved.
He did do well to pressure the Manc defense though and his run onto the ball shrugging off the defenders was good.
carra deserve the yellow for foul against f*#cking owen, absolutely not RED. the official reason: owen is not running towards goal.
Fantastic weren't we? I could barely pick out any faults.
Was so nervous before the game because i could just see us getting humiliated, i went absolutely crazy once Torres netted but then it was back to the nerves just praying we could hold on.
I'm just glad we did it because it's shut up all the critics and the Rafa Out band wagon now.
Here's to our season turn around :).
OFF TOPIC:
I might sound like i live my life mainly on the net, and therefore, have no life! It's probably right....but i found a delightful little forum on liverpool: http://theliverbird.49.forumer.com/index.php where you can try and predict goals and line-ups and more...Kirsty_LFC (who posted a few comments in here as well) has set it up. It's a fun "place" so go take a look :-) I hope (Kirsty) you don't mind the "advertisement".
Not that your (Paul) blog is bad. It's super, i luv it. It's just to get more people to participate in Kirsty's fun competitions....hope it's okay.
Cheers people :-)
@AkU46 - he kinda looked like he was heading that way !?!
@Kirsty_LFC - even if we win the league, I reckon there'll still be a Rafa out band wagon from some people ;-)
@Isak - cheers dude :-)
Hey Isak! Cheers for that lol :), i'm sure Paul doesn't mind, he seems sound lol.
Paul have you added me on Twitter btw? You'll have to excuse my Tweeting abilities lol i'm useless, still getting used to it and that.
And yeah, there will always be some fans who don't like the boss, tbf though it's the one's who don't have any real reasons that get on my nerves, people who can put across a valid point but still accept others views well thats fine but idiots who just jump on the wagon Pfft! No time for them lol.
@Kirsty_LFC - I've added you but I don't really use Twitter or advertise it on this blog (most people subscribe to this blog via RSS or email).
It's a pretty basic presence I have on there. Much prefer following cool blogs and stuff through RSS readers myself...
Cool, i was recommended to use Twitter when i started to blog as apparently it was good for traffic.
Most of my readers are from Twitter/Facebook so i have to keep interacting to keep the readers :).
